Coming
together from different paths
|
The
image linking the hands shows the different paths
taken by Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people to
arrive at a meeting place. It is here where the
two races come together as equals (represented by
the white on black dots) to share knowledge
through our joint interest in the land
(represented by the red centre dot). The image
also represents a bird in flight, which oversees
the coming together of the two cultures.

Similar but different
|
The
centrepiece is an image of Australia where the
different colours represent the different aspects
of the Aboriginal culture;
- Red/brown – the
land
- Black – the
people
- Yellow – the
source of life, the spiritual source
The
jigsaw-like design reminds us that there are over
300 different nation or language groups within
the Aboriginal culture. And yet they share one
common spiritual understanding, as represented by
the dispersed yellow lines - the life source.
This image illustrates
the balance between the earth, people and spirituality that the
Aboriginal culture achieved.

Non-indigenous
Contribution
|
The
white hand represents non-Aboriginal Australians,
who bring to the project knowledge of the
developed western world, such as new technologies
and successful business techniques. |
Indigenous
Contribution
|
The
black hand represents Aboriginal and Torres
Straight Islander people, the descendants of the
world’s oldest continuing culture. They
bring to the project 60,000 years of accumulated
wisdom in the hope that the culture will be
respected and enjoyed by many. |
