Stuff that are just...stuff about the TV show. Well, they are... stuff ... that just don't fit anywhere else except... stuff ... You know what I mean?

Episode Development

We all aren't too fond about reruns, right? When you see a rerun of your favorite TV Show, you just...curse the TV sometimes or simply scowl. Well, wouldn't it be nice if there was a reason why there's so many flippin' reruns? Although I can't say specifically why for every television show in the world, I may have some vital information on how a PokΘMon Episode is developed.
Naturally, the show originated from Japan. The only thing the U.S. Production Team needs to do is...well, a lot of stuff. First of all, you should know that each episode takes a month or more to complete the translation. Yes, you heard me right: 4 to 5 weeks. However, the production team works on 12 to 14 episodes at a time, which...really is rather comforting when you think about it.
What do they do during the long month of development? Well, naturally they need to replace the Japanese dialogue into English dialogue. Let me explain a little bit of this stuff for you: The sounds in the episodes are divided into two seperate parts. There's one part where all the dialogue is kept, and the other part is where the musical score is kept.
Now, this may come as a problem to Pikachu. See, Pikachu's voice, done by Ikue Ohtani (also the voice of Sailor Tin Nyanko in the SailorMoon: SailorStars series), didn't change when the episodes became English, HOWEVER, that's only when Pikachu is the only one talking. Say Ash is talking while Pikachu talking: these times are the times when Pikachu has to change his voice in order to interact with the English-replaced voice of Ash.
ANYWAY, apart from voice, PokΘMon episode music has also been changed to adapt into the American audience better. What they're trying to do is simply match the action on screen with the music composition, which includes new tunes for the U.S. version, and arranged tunes from the Japanese version. You'll be glad to know that the Team Rocket background music has not been changed though =D.
Also, some imagery has also been changed, such as signs. This means that what was used to be Japanese writing is now in English.
Normon Grossfeld, the show's producer, claims that the most difficult thing to translate are the Japanese humor, especially the puns. Such as one time, in the Japanese version, Misty is shouting "Mushi! Mushi! Mushi!" which means "Bug! Bug! Bug!" Then Ash interupts her, showing up in a cow costume, saying "Ushi!" which means "Cow!" In the U.S. version, however, Misty also ends up screaming about bugs, but Ash shows up in the cow costume, saying "Maybe it's a 'Cowterpie!'" as a pun for Caterpie, the bug PokΘMon. These translation of Japanese puns, according to Grossfeld, sometimes takes days to think up a solution.
However, despite the production team trying it's best to translate everything, you might want to be aware that U.S. PokΘMon also has numerous clips cut out, although many were useless. But, in the first episode of PokΘMon in Japan, Misty slaps Ash, whereas in the U.S. version, they cut the slap out. I've also heard that Brock sometimes hits Misty...no wonder why he has such bad luck with woman...
That...covers...it...all...

Shallow Thoughts with Slimu

Has anyone noticed Team Rocket awfully likes to crossdress?

Ash sounds like a girl.

If you spell Pikachu backwards, it's Uhcakip, which is surprisingly pronounceable. On the other hand, if you spell Raichu backwards, which would be Uhciar, would still somewhat pronounceable...

Ash's name spelled backwards reminds me of the word "She."

I want to get Jessie's hair designer...

If Misty's character relates to mist, and Brock's character relates to rock, then would Ash's character relate to ash?

Gary sounds like he has his nose pinched. Doesn't he sound obnoxious? On the other hand, Ash still sounds like a girl. Didja know that Ash really DID look like a girl when he crossdressed? By golly, there's been a hecka-lot of crossdressing in the show. Japanese like crossdressing, don't they?

Hey...Giselle looks like Princess Peach...But she's still really pretty =D.

Brock REALLY needs a girlfriend...
