DreamRender R100

DreamRender is a plug in for windows that will use your 3D card to revolutionise your desktop with a display of Videos, WebCams, Textures, 3d scenes and music Visualisations. DreamRender will replace your desktop wallpaper with;
  • WebCams - You can choose to look live over Loch Ness or just sit back and people watch in Dublin - all this on your desktop (not in a silly little window full of Ads!)
  • Videos - Have your favourite videos play out in the background while you work - DreamRender can use both AVIs or MPEG files.
  • Textures - Choose your texture and then get it to pan with your music - choose that rotation or zoom level that suits you. You can even animate the palette for some really cool effects.
  • ScopePlus - Colourful swirling patterns generated from your music but controlled by you. There are just endless possibilities with this effect.
  • SlideShow - Got a series of pictures that you really like? Put them into a slideshow. Choose how often that you want to change the frame and, suddenly, your desktop is much more interesting.
  • DizzyBox - All this may be just too "flat" for you - so use DizzyBox to take any of the above surfaces and paper it to the inside of a cube - watch as it twists to your music.
  • Tunnel - Any of the above surfaces papered over the inside of a tunnel - you can choose how fast you go through it and how bendy it is - you can even choose the cross-section!
  • Advanced Mode - If you have a powerful 3d accelerator then DreamRender can run in advanced mode. This enables you to set your windows to be translucent so that you can see the effect through your application windows - this is the best way to use DreamRender.
Dream render has WinAmp support, but does not support Windows95 or WindowsNT

SpeedFan 2.0 Beta 2

SpeedFan is a freeware program that monitors fan speeds and temperatures in computers with a known monitoring chip. Its main feature is that it can control the speed of the fans according to the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing noise and power consumption. Currently the only recognized (and useful) chips are WINBOND W83782D, which is found in ABIT BP6, and WINBOND W83627HF.

SpeedFan monitors temperatures and, according to your setup, does its best to keep them at your desired value. When choosing parameters for the minimum and maximum fan speed, try to set them by hand (disable all the VARIATE FANs checkboxes) and listen to the noise. When you hear no noise from the fan then you can set that value as the minimum fan speed for that fan

SpeedFan can be minized to the tray and is compatible with Motherboard Monitor 5.

New in this version:

  • added PCI SCANNING to enable CHIPSET detection
  • added preliminary SMBus support for Intel PIIX4 and Intel PIIX4E
  • increased compatibility with other monitoring software
  • preliminary AMD756 detection
  • preliminary INTEL ICH 82801AA/AB/BA detection

  • preliminary VIA VT82C596 support
  • completely rewritten sensor detection routines
  • avoided a FLOATING POINT ERROR
  • tested with Intel PIIX4
  • tested with VIA VT82C686
  • tested with Winbond W83783S
  • added USE ISA BUS and USE SMBus options

WindowFX 1.20

WindowFX is a new type of program that takes advantage of many of the hidden visual APIs in Windows. Depending on which version of Windows you are running, WindowFX can do some amazing things ranging from adding real alpha blended shadows under windows to having semi-transparent menus. WindowFX also provides users who run at high resolution the ability to set what they want their windows to maximize to.

In addition, WindowFX introduces skinning to the desktop background. Now users can have animated wallpapers that use little CPU. A library of desktop skins is available from which users can have their desktop wallpaper provide news, animation, and more without the normal CPU hit one would get from Active Desktop.

Admittedly, most of the best features are targeted towards Windows 2000 as it has the most cool effects. You won't be able to get shadows or semi-transparent windows under Windows 98 or NT so you'll need to upgrade to Windows 2000 for those effects.
