A large, gray bird with white spots. Length: 53-63 cm; weight: 1,150-1,600 g. Audio (M. Oberle). Native to Subsahara Africa, south to South Africa. An omnivore, with a special fondness for insects, millipedes, and ticks. It lays 6-12 eggs. A common farm bird, some individuals live in a semi-wild state, but usually get some food from farmers.
