A gray-brown duck with a white wing patch visible both in flight and while on the water. The bill is dark (yellow or light gray in many related ducks). Audio (M. Oberle). Length: 46-58 cm.; weight: 850-990 g. Nests in central North America and Eurasia. Normally winters in southern North America, the Bahamas and Cuba. Accidental in wetlands in Puerto Rico with reports from Vega Baja, Humacao and Canóvanas.
