CamRunner™ Help

How to set up CamRunner

Before you download CamRunner there are three essential items that you will need:

  • PC running Windows 95
  • A video capture card or a video camera that is Video for Windows™ compatible
  • An FTP site to send your image

After you download CamRunner, double-click on the Set-Up icon and follow the set-up instructions. Once your computer has finished installing CamRunner, run CamRunner which will be found under the Windows 95 Start Menu and then under Programs.

Running CamRunner for the first time

Upon opening CamRunner it will ask you if you are using a Local Area Network (LAN) or Dial-Up connection. If you are using a Dial-Up connection you will first need to create an account through the Dial-Up Networking dialog box in Windows 95 found under the My Computer icon on your desktop. This information is attained through the ISP which you are using. Once an account is named and created you can select the Dial-Up connection via CamRunner listed in the CamRunner Network Dialog Box.

*Note:CamRunner uses the Dial-up Networking capabilities of Windows 95. Please refer to Windows 95 help for questions regarding the setup of Dial-up Networking.

How to set up a Transfer

To set up a Transfer, click on the Edit Transfer Button. The Transfer Entry dialog box is where you set up all the information in order to transfer an image via FTP and/or save an image locally.

Once a Dial-up or LAN connection is created or determined, you must set up a place to send your images. You first need to name the transfer. Then under Account Profile, you select a Host your image is sent to (you can either type a Host name or a Host IP address). Then type the FTP User name which gives access to your FTP/WWW server. If you want CamRunner to remember the password next time it sends, type the password which belongs with the User name and check the Save Password box.

The Remote File Information is the place where your image is sent on the Web. The Directory box refers to the FTP path name for the file you want to send. The Filename is the name that you give to the image. You need to select the file extension as well (i.e. jpg, png etc. . . ) so that any web browser can decode and receive the image automatically. For Example <www.yourwebsite.com/yourimage.jpg>.

If you want to send incremented files simply check the Incremented File box and select how many you want to send. The HTML in the remote location in which you are sending the image must know to look for these incremented images.

If you want to send 4 incremented images, the remote location must know to look for Image1, Image2, Image3 and Image4 so that you can see four different images. These images will coincide with the schedule you've set up. For example, if you schedule to send the images every hour, 4 images will show up over 4 hours.

*Note: Be sure to check the case of the filename and extension since some servers are case sensitive.

The Local File Information box refers to the place in which you want to save the image locally (on you own computer). If you want to save the images locally check the Save File Locally box. The Directory box is where your files will go on your computer. The File name and Extension must match the remote File name.

If you want to annotate your image from the Transfer Entry Dialog box, click the Edit Annotation box.

Once you've set up an annotation click OK and the Transfer box will show up again. Go to the drop down menu under Annotation Name and select the name of the annotation you wish to use. You can create many different annotation files to choose from. You can do this by naming a new annotation under the Annotate Image and going through the same steps described below.

For more information on how to set up a Transfer refer to the Transfer section of CamRunner Help.

How to Annotate the Image

Click on the Edit Annotation button on the tool bar to open the Annotation dialog box. The Annotation is a way you can put time/date stamp, text, icon or Bitmap on your image.

CamRunner lets you change the font, size, and color of this text. You can also position this text in various places on the image. You can select different time/date stamps from the drop down menu under the Time Stamp Format box. As with the annotation, you can position this on the image.

If you want to add a Logo , type the directory name in the Logo Image Filename box or click browse to find the Filename. The Logo can either be an Icon (.ico) or a bitmap (.bmp). This will appear in the upper left hand corner of the image you are sending.

*Note: If you are sending a smaller image (less than 320x240) be sure to use a smaller font so that all of your text will appear.

*Note: To view how an annotation, time/date stamp or logo appears on the image, capture and annotate a single frame.

How to set up a Schedule

Click on the Edit Schedule button from the main menu or toolbar to open the Schedule Dialog box. The schedule allows you to set the times at which you want CamRunner to send your images.

You can set up several schedules each with a different transfer and annotation. Once you've named your schedule; set the days and times you want your schedule to run. Select a send interval in the Send Image Every. . . box. To set the days you want the images sent click on the appropriate days so that a check appears next to each day you want the images sent. Finally, choose the transfer you want to use to send these images. Just like with the schedules and annotation you can set up multiple transfers.

The Schedule Name and Transfer Name will show up in the Schedule box.

To activate a schedule click on the to the left of the schedule name. If box is not checked it will appear red and that transfer will not be active. If checked, the box will turn green and the selected schedule will start. The Schedule Name and Transfer Name will show up in the Schedule Box.

How to Edit a Schedule

If you want to Modify (change the send time, annotation or transfer information) click on the schedule name (this will highlight the name) then click on the Modify button at the bottom of the screen or double click the schedule name. This will first bring up the Schedule Entry box where you can change the Active Time, Send Interval, or the Active Days. You can also edit the transfer by clicking on the Edit Transfer button. This will bring up the Transfer Entry box where you can change your transfer information. From here you can click on the Edit Annotation box in order to change the annotation for the schedule you wish to modify.
