SurfinShield Xtra is a powerful security management tool that provides protection against potentially harmful Java applets and ActiveX controls. It displays the activities of applets running on the local machine and warns you by both audible and visual alerts when a suspicious applet initiates a security breach.

How Does SurfinShield Xtra Work?
SurfinShield Xtra monitors all Java applets and ActiveX controls that come on board. Most applets do no harm to the system and do not constitute a security risk. They are however monitored, logged and included in the statistics display.

SurfinShield Xtra distinguishes between 'suspicious' and non-suspicious applets. (In this document, the term 'applet' refers to either a Java applet or an ActiveX control.)
An applet is labeled by SurfinShield Xtra as suspicious if it attempts to perform any security breach, such as writing to a file or starting a new process. (Note that for ActiveX controls, SurfinShield Xtra allows writing to specific files, as described in the ActiveX Security section.)
By default, SurfinShield Xtra automatically kills any applet that performs a security breach and adds it to the Suspicious Applet Database in order to prevent it from being loaded into the system in the future. In addition, you can mark any applet as suspicious and it will be added to the Suspicious Applet Database.
All applets in the Suspicious Applet Database are prevented from being loaded into the system.
