The first time you run the Manager and Server applications, they create initialization (.ini) files in the Network subdirectory of the main 3DSMAX directory. You can change most of the settings in the Manager.ini and Server.ini files using the Manager Properties and Server Properties dialogs.
The parameters listed here cannot be changed through the Properties dialog user interface. You can change them by editing the .ini files in a text editing application, such as Notepad, but do so only if you are experiencing network problems with the 3D Studio MAX network renderer.
Max Block Size: Located under the [Network Configuration] heading, this value is the maximum size of a data packet sent when transferring large blocks, such as projects. For slow connections like modems, it use a smaller packet size, for example, 1024.
Acknowledgment Timeout: Located under the [Timers] heading, this value is the amount of time (in seconds) that the system will wait for an acknowledgment of commands (like Ping) sent back and forth between the manager and server. The default is 20 seconds. This parameters must be the same in the manager.ini and all server.ini files.
Acknowledgment Retries: Located under the [Timers] heading, this value determines how many times the sender retries if no acknowledgment is received. The default is 6 tries. After that, the machine is considered down and put off-line. This parameter must be the same in the manager.ini and all server.ini files.
Concurrent Job Assignment: Located under the [Operation] heading, this setting determines the number of Job Assignment sessions the manager will start concurrently between the manager and server, to send the server the job description and 3DS MAX file. MAX files can be large, so be sure the network and the machine running the manager service can handle the value you set.
