It is true that that is an improvement over what we now have... in
fact, I am likely going to purchase an Iwin as soon as they are
available. But QNX/P5 isn't going to fly. P5 will orphin it just like
they do everything else, skipping madly from one thing to another and
leaving a trail of broken promises behind. I noticed that they literaly
jumped at the chance to make yet another attemp to lead Amigans off to
a different system. If they had the success and the money, they would
be just another microsoft. I am going to be afraid to buy one of their
G4 cards despite how good they sound, because they probably will have a
propriatory bomb built into them just like some of their earlier cards
with the roms. I have been burned twice by P5, and that is enough.
Please note that I am not knocking those of you who are happily using
P5 products with no problems. They have some good engineering... I just
don't like their attitude and untrustworthyness.

Basically, the P5 solution will be not much more than an expensive,
proprietary system with almost no following, only a half-step ahead of
the Macintosh in technology and far behind it in market and reliability.
The Iwin will be only equal to the Mac in technology but will perform
better because of the clean Amiga OS, and will be directly compatible
with present (and past) Amiga software as well as allowing for full
access to the power of PPC processors.

-IF- Amiga succeed in getting a new hardware spech going (whether
they make it themselves or not is of little consequence) it will be
a whole order of magnetude better than wintel or Mac pcs and allow
Amiga to even compete with the new machines from Sony, Sega, and
Ninetendo on their own turf. Better yet, the new Amigas would take
Vidio, DTP, Multimedia, Art and other productivity type software to
new and impressive hights as well.

PPC is for now a viable upgrade path, and one well worth following.
But PPC will soon be outmoded itself and so I am hoping for a
solution like the one Amiga have outlined. If that is not to be,
then it is a Lynux/AmigaOS3.5 combo route for me. But QNX will also
bear watching if they are able to get anywhere. Anything but windoze
(Or the new MacOS which is becoming more windoz-like every day).

We shall see what happens, my friend. Who knows, maybe we will have
several good solutions to choose from.

Meanwhile, either an Iwin or a Boxer will be my next purchase as I
am badly in need of a new computer.

cacha later,
