The Kicking Fish

We can't actually believe that we get so much amusement for free. We found that there was even more of it on his web site at http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/kicking.fish/, once we'd peeled ourselves off the floor to check. The second article is our favourite, by the way.

If I ran a software company, I'd know how to use the net better. First I'd write software that no other machine has access to. To stop this conversion nonsense. Then I'd of course put a demo of it on the web. But and here's the great part, every week I would use that bulk of code. To get something new and a little bit challenging for the weekend mornings. Lets face it move one thing in a three dimensional stage, at 50 frames/sec. You can move anything you like.

Then everyone could Log in, making thier own coffee of course, read some stories which had nothing to do with acorns, except the subliminal affect of being written by an acorn user. Load up the additions, for when I log off and go into the newsgroups. Then play whatever they were and If I get real energetic write to me and say some news that you think has broken in another galaxy, or "addition exploit" game idea.

Only trouble is I have a game, two dimensional version received a good review, in back to back Acorn Worlds, three pages in all. If I made that three dimensional then that graphics engine would be able to start invaders, whatever. And If I'm on the net all the time why not start things for the acorn community like a stupid game when people draw houses and villages on !paint and !draw, linking a front door to some one elses inside room. Just image map and interlink URL's .Obviously no money , no one even in charge. To create a huge planet on the net, able to show off that your an acorn user. And leave P.C users still with no culture, as well as no brain.

( Oh what am I saying problem , heck! solution. Tis now a done thing. )

Your input, especially from advocacy is essential,
                                                   to make it all work.
like am I on the right track?
Oh the games are chess variants and no machine has a "tori shogi", none have an algorithm that also turns it's hand to classic as well as chinese. And none give the whole demo away set on skill 0, Yes computer opponent is ready to check mate you ( 350k compressed demo ) so you have an introduction into chess improvements. And I get a graphics engine, and weekly contact with Generation-ARM. Requirements are 2Mb, Os 3.10, low, med, high resolution supported. If it don't work, tell me it should! Basically it's tori shogi this week, next it's the Classic, then chinese chess. All with big electronic manual. And ability to play what will be chess puzzles, until I get more adventurous.

Subject: Kicking Fish, chess BUGS! REMOVED!

One Hundred plus; people have downloaded the Tori Shogi Demo. This at about ten a day, which shows a great deal of interest for summer.

Many have had problems, installing, playing on RISC PC's. Or low resolution monitors.

THE SUMMARY OF THIS ARTICLE IS THEREFORE THAT ERRORS HAVE BEEN FOUND AND REMOVED. AND THE NEW BUG FREE VERSION IS AVAILABLE AT http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/kicking.fish/demo.htm

The rest of the article is simply a list of bugs removed, To add confidence on seeing your bug checked off the list.

----------------------------------------------------------
1. Configure monitor type 1.
'Nonsense and removed, mode is selected on the desktop before using
the application. If the mode has changed since os 3.10 then a utility
supplied, can be used to temporarily reset the mode.'

2. On Running the graphics are a mess, and the mouse won't move.
'Error due to mode changes for some monitors, Above fix solves both.'

3. The graphics run too fast
'Every frame now waits for SYNC so the animation
of the manual is no longer a blur.'

4. Installation , tricky.
'The installation has been simplified, just do what you normally do.
De-arc and it will work. 300k compressed, 1mB uncompressed.'

5. Some problems saving boards
'This was fixed nine days ago.'

6. I can't beat it,
'With the manual now clearer, it should be easier to learn and win.'

PROBLEMS THAT STILL REMAIN

1. Clicking on menu, before moving a piece, reports an error.
'I can not duplicate this, it may only be with strong arms!
Even on strong arms this is intermittent.'

2. The movement markers in 3d are appalling, Are They Intentional?
'The elegant "Bamboo Flag Markers" will be changed before
Mid august release, to something everyone likes!'

3. Selecting pieces in 3d mode is too precise.
'The 3d is very dramatic, adding far more depth than normal.
I will see what can be done. But I prefer tight movement.
There is nothing worse than accidentally moving the wrong piece.'

4. The business of selecting mode then entering could be improved.
'An installation preference menu will be added before release.
It will be in the demo, then.'

Good news

As the software now runs on 310 and RISC PC with STRONG ARM, we can all
enjoy this beautiful 18th century japanese variant. No need for !gameOn

By nature chess has a great deal of game play. And the free demo will still
be giving you a good game, even at it's limit of skill 0.

To get any more information on tori shogi, type it; at SAVVY or any other
good search engine. The game is well loved! by all variants enthusiasts.

Now tori is fixed, I can get Classic chess up next week, and Chinese up
after that.

I will get them onto argonet ftp: (soon ), for those who can't get www.
