What a start! Multimedia trade fair sets the pace for the next generation

  • Entertainment and events - the ideal model for trade fairs of the next generation
  • Attendance of 210 000 exceeds all expectations

The tension is over. CeBIT HOME '96 was not only the biggest innovation among Hannover's many trade fairs - it was also a successful attempt to combine product information with entertainment and events, setting the framework for trade shows after the year 2000. Drawing about 210 000 visitors (643 exhibitors) to a debut event is not just an incredible start. It also has a lasting impact on the future of multimedia trade fairs.

CeBIT HOME '96 offered an up-to-the-minute snapshot of the current state of the multimedia market, presenting an overview of the latest digital technology for the home, recreation and work. The trade fair program included sectors in information technology, network computing, software, services (incl. online services), telecommunications, consumer electronics (incl. hi-fi and high-end), media and publishing, electronic security systems and home automation. In addition, the many joint displays and special presentations gave access to more in-depth information on the hottest new topics: Internet, virtual banking, video digital and ISDN.

And the intense media coverage - by the German public broadcasting stations, ARD and ZDF, but also by private stations - was an added bonus. Not only did radio and TV stations broadcast their programs live on the scene; they also gave their audience a glimpse into their current and future multimedia activities.

The CeBIT HOME was a first class, first rate media event. More than 4,500 journalists reported on this trade fair.
