Data transfer in GSM network are in general divided into three groups:

Data files

It is possible to transfer various formats of computer data such as text files, charts of spreadsheet program, pictures etc. through GSM network.

Another option for mobile data transfer is the application of GPS system (distinct position search by satellite) or in realisation of industrial data collection and transfer from technological units.

Internet

With data card and GSM mobile telephone, you can get connected into Internet and obtain all the necessary information including extended services of WWW, News, Telnet, FTP and others. From immense amount of Internet information resources, you can get information about bus, train and air connection, up-to-date stock-exchange news or cultural listings. E-mail

Another advantage of GSM network data service is an option to use the electronic mail. In your car on a parking lot or in a hotel on your business trip, you can run a particular E-mail administration program (MS Mail, Lotus CC Mail, Mail 602 etc.) and send messages, special texts or business data in charts to all over the world at low cost through your GSM phone.

Portable computer with PCMCIA slot type II and celullar PCMCIA data card (the ôPCMCIAö card) with a connecting cable
User software for data transfer: for example Nokia Mobiline, Delrina WinFax, 602 for GSM etc.

Receive and Send Faxes

Insert PCMCIA card into PCMCIA slot of your PC.
Connect your GSM phone with PC by the connecting cable.
Switch your mobile phone on and insert PIN. Switch the computer on.
If you have already installed the PCMCIA card driver, run the faxing program.
If you have not installed the driver, install it according to the instructions attached to your PCMCIA card.
In the faxing program, you can create and send required document / fax and receive incoming faxes to your cellular fax number.

Data and Fax Services Abroad

You can send both data and faxes through GSM also when you are abroad. If the local GSM operator provides Data/Fax services, you only have to:

activate roaming with operator in the respective country
use an international form of the telephone number to get connected (for example if you call the Czech Republic, you type +420 and area code without zero in the beginning).

NOTICE : Always use the PCMCIA card and corresponding connecting cable only of the type which is recommended by the manufacturer for the model of your GSM mobile telephone. You can, thus, avoid possible complications connected with the non-compatibility of single devices.
