3.43 Accounts
When using Microdot-II with the NetConnect package, Microdot-II will take the currect user list
from the Genesis user list, which means that you have pre-setup accounts.
Also, Microdot-II will look for the current subscribed user and then use the current preferences
for this user. For instance, log in as 'Chris' from within Genesis. start Microdot-II and it
will load the preferences for user 'Chris'.
You need to set the account information for this user, however. To do this, go to the accounts
manager.
Identity
- Account name: - is the account name. If you are using Genesis, the accounts will
be take from the Genesis user list.
- Your real name: - your real name.
- Your organisation's name: - the name of your company or organisation. If you are
a private user then simply enter 'Private User' or something similar.
- Your face: - will send a small picture with every email you send. The person receiving
the email will be able to see the picture at the top of their mail. You could send a picture of your
face or company logo. The picture must fit within this box (48x48 pixels).
Network/Mail
- POP3 (mail) account: - insert your POP3 userid (usually the same as your login
name) into this box.
- Password: - this is your password that you are required to use to obtain the your
email from your service provider. Normally your password is the same as the password you use to
dialup and connect to your provider.
- POP3 server address: - the POP3 server which Microdot-II connects to in order to
download your email. For instance, this might look like pop3.isp.co.uk, or similar.
- Delete mail on server? - best check this as "yes". This will delete the mail on your
server once it has downloaded. If you do not do this you mail in your mailbox (at your ISP)
will become larger and larger!
- Authentication method: - the way you authenticate yourself with your POP3 server. Most,
if not all, use user/pass (default).
- (E)SMTP (relay) server - this is your mail server for sending mail.
- Your real email address - insert your correct email address into here. This is used
to make sure your Return mail to: option is set when sending mail (ie. so when someone
replies to you, the mail is sent back to you correcty).
Network/News
- NNTP (news) server: - the news server needed by Microdot-II in order to download
news messages from your service provider. Normally will look like news.isp.co.uk.
- Use NNTP-Auth? - some service providers require you to send a user name and password
in order to download news messages from their server. Often this is to protect minors from downloading
offensive material. Sometimes NNTP authentication can be required to download news messages from other
news servers. For instance, say your service provider didn't even have a news service, you could go to
another company who specialises in news feeds, in order to obtain news messages.
- When fetching articles - the only get headers option is recommended - allows
you to collect just the subject headers for news messages. If you select get both headers
and bodies Microdot will download the subject header and content when collecting news (and
this will take ages!).
