Sapphire/Web Client Objects

3

Introduction

Sapphire/Web provides a set of client-side objects for Web Application development. These client objects are delivered in several forms: Java, JavaScript, ActiveX, and VBScript.

Using Sapphire's visual programming tool, you can design Web applications based on the client-side objects in no time, writing no lines of code. Each has its own characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses.

The Java Row Set object introduced here has, obviously, a number of parameters with which you can control its appearance, etc. The documentation for these can be found in the Reference Manual.

This chapter includes descriptions of the Sapphire/Web Row Set for Java, ActiveX, and JavaScript. We only provide illustrations for the Java version of the example, though each method will produce the same results. Some "screen grabs" were made using Internet Explorer, while others use Netscape Navigator. Both browsers will, of course, display nearly the same page.

Note: When using Netscape 3.0, you may need to set up your proxies correctly for the Java framework examples to work. Netscape is case sensitive for the hostname. You may also need to include both a lower case and upper case version of a host in the proxies list for these examples to work.
