STARTING THE PROGRAM
Before you begin you should always make a backup copy of the
program diskette.
(Refer to DOS manual to make backup)
After starting amort you will be greeted with a copyright and
version number screen. To leave this screen just press "ENTER".
Followed will a brief discussion on shareware and the user fee
for the registration of AMORT. After you read this screen just
press enter to proceed with the program.
Note: Registered users will not see this screen.
You have now entered AMORT. The menu is a simple bounce bar menu.
You select a choice by entering the number for the function you
want or by using your <UP> or <DOWN> arrow keys to move the
selection bar to your choice and pressing the <ENTER> key.
1 Enter Loan Information
From this option you will be greeted with a set of questions to
help calculate your loan or mortgage. The first five question are
simply the name and address of a potential customer you could be
preparing a amortization report for. If you so wish, you may
press the <ENTER> for each of those five questions if you are just
preparing the amortization schedule for yourself.
The first question pertaining to the amortization schedule is:
Enter loan amount?
This is a straight forward answer so just enter the amount of
money you wish to borrow.
Enter interest period?
This question is to determine how often the financial
establishment calculates the interest due on the loan or
mortgage. Most loans are calculated monthly so you may enter "12"
at this question. For most mortgages the interest is calculated
twice a year so you should enter "2" for this question.
Enter interest in %?
All you need to do here is to enter the interest amount the
financial establishment will be charging you. If the interest is
12% just enter "12" and not ".12".
How many years to repay?
Just enter the span of years you wish to take to pay the loan.
How many payments per year?
Just enter the amount of times you will be making payments on
(C)opyright 1990-1992 - Lou's Software Development Page 4
your loan. If payments are monthly just enter a "12".
The screen will then display your monthly payments.
From here you can edit the data you just entered or just keep on
going with the data you just entered.
You will then be prompted for a file name. This saved file is
only for use with the utility PERIODIC included in your package.
Just enter an 8 character file name with no extension. The exten
sion ".PRN" will be added to your file name.
2 Print Amortization
This option will take you to another screen where you will be
asked how many payments you will want to print and from which
payment you want to start from.
Note: Make sure your printer is turned on for this option.
3 Calculate Amount of Loan
This option is for someone who may need to know what the original
amount of a loan was if they only know the interest and the
payments they are making on this loan. From this selection you
will jump to another screen with a series of questions on the
information needed to perform the calculation:
Enter payment amount?
Just enter the amount of the payments you are presently making on
an existing loan.
All you need to do here is to enter the interest amount the
financial establishment is charging you. If the interest is 12%
just enter "12" and not ".12".
How many years to repay?
Just enter the span of years the loan was setup for.
How many payments per year?
Just enter the amount of times you are making payments on your
loan. If payments are monthly just enter a "12".
The screen will then display your original amount of the loan.

4 Long Term Deposit
This option is for the calculation of long term investment of a
one time deposit into an account or the purchase of G.I.C.'s or
Certificate of Deposits. Just enter the information asked on the
screen and the final amount at the end of the term of your
investment will be displayed on the screen.
RRSP Prediction
This option is designed to calculate regular (equal) yearly
deposits into an RRSP saving plan. Just follow the questions on
the screen to enter the information and the final calculation
will be displayed on the screen.
Exit to DOS
This will exit the program and return the user to the operating
system.
