  3.             DISKETTE and HARD DRIVE FILING SYSTEM

  6.      This program is to catalog your files that are on diskettes of any size
  7. or type, such as 360, 720, 1.44.  Also will File hard drives C - E.
  8. You should find 14 files from this unzipped file.  They are: DF.EXE, ASK.COM,
  9. (3) SCRN??.COM, & this README29.1ST text file which you are reading now,
  10. & CAPSLOCK.COM, DF.COM, DSKFIL29.DOC, INSTALL.BAT, PPT.EXE, DF00L02L.209,
  11. and OLDPI.EXE, and QUICK29.DOC or QUICK29S.DOC if shareware version.

  23. TO GET STARTED
  24. --------------
  25.                      Hard Drive
  26.  
  27.      You can do one of several ways to use this program, but one thing to
  28. keep in mind is that the storage file called `d_stor.dta' will expand and could
  29. become quite large.  Therefore, it's BEST to use a hard drive.       So if on a
  30. hard drive do the following:
  31.  
  32. 1.  Go to your hard drive and make a directory called: DSKFILER
  33.        Example:   c:>md DSKFILER     ,press `enter key'
  34.  
  35. 2.  Copy the files into the directory you just made.  Say your diskette that
  36.     you have is in drive A: this would be an example of what you could type:
  37.        a:>copy *.* c:\DSKFILER
  38.  
  39. 3.  Change or get into the directory  DSKFILER          after changing to drive C:
  40.        Example:  a:> c:    ,press `enter key'
  41.      c:>cd\DSKFILER    ,press `enter key'
  42.  
  43. 5.  Then to start the program simply type;  DF         ,and press the `enter key'.
  44.        Example:     c:DSKFILER>df    ,press `enter key'
  45.  
  46. 5.  The program contains a brief set of instructions at the beginning of the
  47.     program which will help you with the overall process.  There is also short
  48.     descriptions to help you at each question when there is a choice to be
  49.     made.

  51.                     Floppy Drive
  52.  
  53.  
  54. 1.  If you have the 14 files on a blank diskette already your ready to go
  55.     except for one more step.  If you don't want to use this program on this
  56.     diskette, then copy the files to a blank formatted diskette.
  57.  
  58. 2.  After you have the files on the diskette that you are going to use this
  59.     program on you need to copy five more files to this diskette.  They are
  60.     the following:  MORE.COM, FIND.COM, CHKDSK.COM, COMMAND.COM, and
  61.     LABEL.COM. You can get these files from your DOS diskette.
  62.  
  63. 3.  After you have a total of 19 files as described above on the diskette
  64.     your ready to begin using the program.  If your diskette drive is  A:
  65.     then the following example will start the program if you are in that
  66.     drive.  If you need to conserve space on your diskette you can delete
  67.     this file (readme29.1st), and DSKFIL29.DOC, and QUICK29S.DOC, leaving
  68.     you with 16 files total on the working diskette copy.

  70.       Example:    a:>DF    ,press the `enter key'

  72. CONCLUSION
  73. ----------

  75.      This program uses 5 programs from DOS to do it's job.  To make things a
  76. little easier and to get the full advantage of the program it would be helpful
  77. to get the program called:  LIST.COM or LIST.EXE depending on version you find
  78. or use.  This is another shareware program that you can get from shareware
  79. vendors or from Bulletin Board Services (BBS).          It is put out by;
  80. Vernon D. Buerg.  This program was developed for simple but flexible  use, from
  81. a need that I found necessary to write this program.  The main big difference
  82. DISK FILER has over others is to allow you to erase a diskette completely and
  83. remove this deleted diskette from the catalog as well, but retain it's ID#.
  84. I hope you find this program of use to you as it has been for me.

  86.     You can also use the install.bat file to do the above mentioned
  87. procedures more easily by simply typing in the drive you want Disk Filer
  88. installed TO and the drive FROM which you are installing from when doing
  89. it for the HARD drive.

  91.      Example for Floppy: install a b    ,press the `enter key'
  92.  
  93.      Example for Hard Drive:  install c a  ,press the `enter key'
  94.  
  95.     Be sure to use the correct syntax just like it is in the examples to
  96. install to the different drives.  The "c" being first after the install
  97. command tells the batch file to install TO the hard drive, and the "a"
  98. that it's installing FROM the A: drive.  If you want to install from the B:
  99. drive type that letter instead, or use your ramdrive if you wish.

  101.     To print out the documentation file: DSKFIL29.DOC type the following
  102.     command at the DOS prompt:
  103.  
  104.     copy dskfil29.doc prn        ,press the `Enter key'
  105.       and
  106.     copy quick29s.doc prn        ,press the `Enter key'
  107.  
  108.         BE SURE TO READ THE DOCUMENTATION OR SCAN OVER IT AT LEAST!

  111.                !PREVIOUS USERS OF Disk Filer!

  114.      There is some changes in this version that is different than with
  115. previous versions.  First and Foremost, is that you will need to copy
  116. "DLABEL.DTA" file to a diskette before you use version 2.9.  Disk Filer
  117. 2.9 uses an entirely different "PI" file structure.  With this new structure
  118. you will see a few differences in the "PI" command.  Then Delete Old
  119. Dlabel.dta and then select -0- to make a new Dlabel.dta file.  You also can
  120. now delete H_FIL.BAT and D_FIL.BAT files for these procedures are now done
  121. from within Disk Filer.  You can also delete "SCRN05.COM".  You will find
  122. a file called OLDPI.EXE that will let you see the contents of the old
  123. "DLABEL.DTA" file of the old version of Disk Filer 2.7.  You have a choice,
  124. you can either continue to use the old way of storing your last used diskette
  125. data using OLDPI.EXE program, or type the latest data directly into the
  126. NEW method in the NEW Disk Filer program version 2.9.  I decided not to write
  127. another conversion program for this change.

  129.                 ANNOUNCING...

  131.      You can now get Technical Support by calling Prevail BBS at 316-441-0493,
  132. using 2400 Baud or less, settings at 8,N,1 and Full Duplex.  Prevail BBS is
  133. online 24 hours a day and uses the Wildcat BBS program.  You can access
  134. new material, support files, conversions, and other programs and files for
  135. Disk Filer by entering category "R" for PlaneWrap Software.  You can leave
  136. your message or questions to either me or PlaneWrap Software and they should
  137. be answered within one week after you have left your message or question.
  138. (I only log on to the BBS approximately once per week).  Prevail BBS is a
  139. full operating BBS system, so while there browse through the rest of the
  140. categories and messages.

  143.                 LAST MINUTE FINDINGS!

  145.     It has been found that old originals of OLD XT computers (such as Tandy
  146.     1000 originals) architecture, that the DF.COM file will cause the computer
  147.     to not execute or run the DF program.  If this occurs, do the following:
  148.  
  149.      ren df.exe dff.exe  ,Press the Enter key
  150.  
  151.        Then to start the Disk Filer program, type:  DFF     ,Press Enter key
  152.
