More than a thousand women gathered at Central Hall, Westminster last night at a meeting called by the Status of Women Campaign Committee to urge the Government to establish women's equality with men. The committee seeks legislation to give a woman her own nationality and domicile irrespective of that of her husband, equal pay and opportunities and the abolition of the marriage bar in all Government services, and equal contributions and benefits for all women, married or unmarried, in any scheme of social insurance.
Lady Noel-Buxton, Labour MP for Norwich, said that after this war they were determined that there was going to be no slipping back in the status of women. Mrs. Leah-Manning, Labour MP for Epping, said some kind of arrangement would have to be made to enable women to make their contribution in the outside world, and yet carry on their work in their homes as wives and mothers.
Mrs. Braddock, Labour MP for Liverpool (Exchange), said: "I am not a feminist. I believe that I am just as good as any man in this country."
