Licensing and Duplication Information
Duplication Restrictions
Print Screen is a shareware product. It may be freely copied and dis-
tributed for evaluation as long as four basic rules are followed.
These rules are:
1) The program and this documentation may not be
modified in any way.
2) A copy of this documentation is provided with
the program.
3) No charge, other than a media and handling
charge, (not to exceed $5.00) is made.
4) Users of the program are encouraged to purchase
a license for its use.
If a copy of this program is retained, an obligation to purchase a li-
cense for its use is incurred. A license for use of this program costs
only $25.00.
Print Screen Utility
Most of display hardcopy programs can handle only one adapter type
(e.g. EGA). The device independency of Windows provided means to deve-
lop this universal hardcopy program. You can easily use this program
if You have Windows 2.0 or higher and printer, which supports graphics.
Program has also hardware dependent support for 9-pin matrix printers
(Epson, IBM) and most of common display adapter types. In commercial
version also HP Laserjet has direct hardware support.
Windows device
The Windows dependent facilities supports only monochrome displays
(allthough some color display drivers may have mono capabilities also).
You can see the size of Your display and printer in pixels. You have
to give the size and location of the image that will be printed. Those
values determines if the display image have to be scaled and where on
the paper image will be printed. You may be informed of two possible
error conditions. Some part of the printer image may lie outside the
paper surface. If X-coordinate is outside of the paper, the result of
printing is undetermined (depends of Your printer and it's driver).
If Y-coordinate is outside of the paper You may have to feed new page
into Your printer. If the printed image is not where it is supposed to
be, You can check the default settings via Control Panel CONTROL.EXE.
The windows device printing is recommended because of its continuous
scaling facility. Allthough the program has fascinating scaling prop-
erties some low resolution printer modes will compose low quality
pictures, if You select desired size not to be a multiply of display
size. No such problems exists with high resolution printers.
Hardware dependent print
Hardware dependent printing support covers all selectable adapters
(also color):
CGA 640 * 200
EGA 640 * 350 (color plane 0)
MGA 720 * 348 (plane 0, at B000:0000)
ATT 640 * 400 (Olivetti, ATT, Gas Plasma etc)
WY 1280 * 800 (Wyse-700, Amdek 1280)
MCGA 640 * 480
VGA 640 * 480 (color plane 0)
VGA 800 * 600 (color plane 0)
These will also be supported in next version:
EGA multiplane (gray scale on laser)
VGA multiplane (gray scale on laser)
VGA 1024 * 768 (gray scale on laser)
This might be supported if I manage to get specs for it:
VIKING monochrome 1600 * 1200
Program does not try to find out the type of Your adapter. You ha-
ve to select it Yourself. In next version You can define settings
in WIN.INI (windows initialization file).
Output device can be selected from among DOS devices. All defined
devices will be enabled. Default name for display image file is
PRTSC.PRN. File will written into same directory where You started
the PRTSC.EXE program. Allthough You can give explicit path names
for files, it is not recommended to use diskette drives for target
file devices: they can be extremely slow.
Filter EOF option filters End Of File characters from print stream.
ASCII code 26 (EOF-character) will be changed to ASCII code 24. It
is highly useful to choose this option if You will print the image
into file (and print it later). You will "lose" some pixels, how-
ever you can print the file under common DOS prompt by TYPEing the
file on printer:
TYPE PRTSC.PRN > PRN
Do not use PRINT command on filed images. PRINT will expand tabu-
lar characters into space characters and the printed image will be
corrupted.
Two printers are supported:
9-pin Epson matrix printer
9-pin IBM matrix printer
Two other printers are supported in commercial version:
Hewlett-Packard LaserJet
Hewlett-Packard DeskJet
Toshiba 351 printer support will be in next version.
Some hints:
If You have color adapter, carefully select the colors (via Control
Panel) so, that You get nice contrasts on printed image: those can
be found only by method of trial and error.
If You have VGA adapter, there are two possibilities to use program:
1. Set screen colors so that You get desired results with hardware.
2. Install Windows as like Your adapter were a MCGA one.
