@COL HEADLINE = Bitstream's 80 Outline Fonts for Ventura Publisher
1.1
@BYLINE = Publisher Information Service (312)-342-6919 When you're
SERIOUS about your documents
June 22, 1978 saw the announcement of Bitstream's new Fontware Installation
Kit for Ventura Publisher users. On this same date Bitstream also
announced a Xerox- BitStream Marketing agreement for VP users. The
new Fontware Program is a package along with a collection of Master
Font Outlines designed to make professional quality fonts on an IBM
PC or AT or compatible in virtually any size and for most popular
printers and monitors or Fontware-equipped devices. Based on advanced
AI (artificial intelligence) techniques, the Fontware package creates
fonts that are optimized for the best results at all sizes and resolutions. Fontware
also provides matching screen fonts along with these printer fonts,
so line endings are displayed accurately as they are printed. Also,
the characters appearing on screen closely resemble the actual characters
which are output by the printing device. Ventura users already know
well the quality of the Bitstream fonts since the Dutch, Swiss and,
Courier and Symbols fonts which are are provided with VP are produced
by Bitstream for Ventura Software.
@HEADLINE = Fontware's Flexibility
Fontware provides users with the flexibility of point size, symbols,
foreign language characters, and all in a variety of type styles and
weights - roman, bold, italic and bold italic. At the onset, the
Fontware Library offers 80 typefaces, including the new Bitstraem
Charter, a new type design created by Mathew Carter, who is the VP
of Design at Bitstream. Among the variety of typefaces are Dutch
and Helvetica, Centura Schoolbook, ITC Souvenir, ITC Galliard, and
many others. New typeface families are planned in future releases
and eventually, most of the extensive BitStraem library will be made
available in Fontware format.
Fontware Outline Masters are provided with a 500 character International
Character database and besides the ASCII character set designed for
VP, users can custom define unique character sets of their own. Included
in the characterdatabase are a wide variety of typographical symbols,
mathematical symbols, line drawing characters and assorted dingbats. With
FOntware's ability to generate screen fonts, users can easily get
true WYSIWYG viewing of custom character sets one they are generated.
@HEADLINE = Total Control
One of the unique benefits offered by FOntware is the freedom to choose,
which is seldom provide for the harried LaserJet user when it comes
to font selection. With FOntware, users have control of the point
sizes and type styles - a user could purchase (for instance) a Centura
Schoolbook typeface family from Bitstream which consists of Roman,
Italic, Bold and BOld Italic. From this family any type point size
can be generated in single point increments, and Fontware also supports
fractional increments in the point size (Ventura Publisher does not
directly support fractional point sizes, but there are ways to get
around that for the experience user). Users who produce oversize documents
can achieve more accurate control of typeface size with Fontware and
the freedom to generate fonts when you want them is highly appealing.
@HEADLINE = Getting Started
The Fontware INstallation Kit for Ventura Publisher will retail for
$95.00. Registered users of Ventura Publisher 1.1 will also receive
a substantial discount when purchasing the Fontware Installation Kit
as Xerox will send registered users an invitation to purchase a Fontware
sampler from Bitstream for $24.95. The sampler includes the Fontware
INstallation Kit for VP and the roman (normal) weight of the new Bitstream
Charter family - the offer is good until Dec 31, 1987.
@HEADLINE = The Bottom Line
SInce the Fontware Typeface Package includes four outlines of a typeface
in roman, italic, bold and bold italic and each package retails for
$200.00 - with any point size available this is a considerable savings
over the path most LaserJet users have had to trod on the path to
Flexibility and Variety in Ventura Publisher Font Selection. Considering
Fontware's ability to generate any point size, screen fonts, and custom
character sets the price is considerably less than conventional bit
mapped font offerings.
