  8.  This document covers IMPORTANT material NOT contained in the user's guide.
  9.  Please read ALL of this information carefully! SEE THE NEW FEATURES section
  10.  for new features that are NOT covered in the help or documentation.

  12.  All Known Bugs Fixed
  13.  --------------------
  14.  Version 5.1 fixes all known bugs reported to us in the last 6 months.
  15.  Most importantly the CD ROM drive problem that some users reported has
  16.  been fixed.  The Password option has also been corrected, and your
  17.  cosmetic and functional suggestions have been implemented where possible.
  18.                                
  19.  Important Installation Directions
  20.  --------------------------------- 
  21.  The Zip Manager program files are in compressed format, each file ends
  22.  with an _ character.  You must run the ZMSETUP program to expand them
  23.  before the program can be used. You must run ZMSETUP.EXE from the Windows
  24.  Program Manager.  Other shells like the Norton Desktop or PC Tools for
  25.  Windows are not 100% compatible with our setup program and may cause it to
  26.  fail when attempting to create the Zip Manager Group.

  28.  Running The ZMSETUP Program
  29.  ----------------------------
  30.  1. From the Program Manager File Menu choose Run...
  31.  2. Enter the location of the ZMSETUP Program. If the files were on your
  32.     A: drive then you would enter: A:\ZMSETUP and press Enter or Click on
  33.     the OK button.
  34.  3. The Zip Manager setup dialog will be displayed.
  35.  4. The edit field will display a suggested directory.
  36.  5. Press OK to accept the default directory or enter new destination
  37.     directory and press Enter or Click on the OK button.
  38.  6. The setup program will create the directory for you and display
  39.     the file installation progress.
  40.  7. When it has finished expanding and copying the files it will create
  41.     a new Program Manager Group and add the program files to the group.
  42.     Now you can proceed with the next step.
  43.  
  44.  To Complete The Installation
  45.  ----------------------------
  46.  After the installation program is finished you MUST read the installation
  47.  section of the Users' Guide.  You will see its icon in the Zip Manager
  48.  group. You must setup the program's default directories, and configure
  49.  the program to work with your Virus Detection software.

  52.                     Important Information - Please Read These!
  53.  **************************************************************************
  54.  
  55.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  56.  ---------------------------------------------
  57.  THIS APPLIES TO DOS PKZIP USERS ONLY
  58.  Do NOT put the Zip Manager program files deep in a directory tree. Doing
  59.  so may make it impossible for Zip Manager to work with the DOS programs,
  60.  ARJ and PKZIP.  We suggest that you install Zip Manager in its own directory
  61.  off of the root directory.  c:\zipmgr, would be a good example.  ZMZIP and 
  62.  ZMUNZIP allow Zip Manager to compress and extract files in very deep 
  63.  directory trees.  However DOS programs are limited to 128 characters
  64.  at the VERY MOST for command line arguments.
  65.  
  66.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  67.  ---------------------------------------------
  68.  Zip Manager creates its own temporary directory called zm5temp which it
  69.  uses to extract and store files. DO NOT use this directory, since all of
  70.  the files in it are deleted when Zip Manager ends.  We wanted to be sure
  71.  that you didn't set this as one of your default directories.
  72.  If you did all of your files would be gone when Zip Manager closed!
  73.  There was a bit of confusion about the usage of this directory and we
  74.  wanted to make sure  that you didn't lose any files accidently.
  75.  
  76.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  77.  ---------------------------------------------
  78.  **** WARNING YOUR DATA MAY BE IN DANGER ****
  79.  Never add 2.04 format files to any Zip file created with the PKZIP
  80.  Version 1.10.  This is the old zip file format, and if you add a file
  81.  to a version 1.10 zip with either PKZIP 2.04g or Zip Manager you will
  82.  CORRUPT the Zip file and all other files in it will be unrecoverable.
  83.  We have had a few users report this unfortunate problem and we wanted
  84.  to make you aware of it again for your safety.  Zip Manager has an
  85.  easy to use convert option on the edit menu.  If you are NOT SURE
  86.  if a file was created with pkzip 1.10 or 2.04, then don't take a
  87.  chance!  Convert it to 2.04 format to be safe!
  88.  
  89.  This potential problem with backward compatibility was never
  90.  documented clearly with any other archive program.  We want your
  91.  data to be secure, so we felt it was worth re-documenting it here
  92.  for extra saftey.
  93.  
  94.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  95.  ---------------------------------------------
  96.  If you have the recurse directories switch checked
  97.  and then select the root of your hard disk, Zip Mgr
  98.  will try to recurse and archive your entire drive!
  99.  There may be some instance where you would need to do
  100.  this but just be aware that you will also need to have
  101.  multiple volume switch set and have the target drive
  102.  as either A: or B:
  103.  
  104.  Important Note On Converting Files!
  105.  -----------------------------------
  106.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONVERT MORE THAN ONE FILE AT A TIME. When converting
  107.  a file from ZIP to ARJ or ARC to ZIP for example, you would force the
  108.  conversion process to open up more than one copy of PKZIP.  This can
  109.  easily RESULT IN SEVERE DATA LOSS.  The Zip Manager was designed to convert
  110.  only one file at time, so please be careful.
  111.  
  112.  MAPI.DLL Error Message Warning                 
  113.  ------------------------------
  114.  If you don't have an E-Mail program, or one that uses the Microsoft Mail 
  115.  API then the FIRST TIME Zip Manager starts you MAY get a message box that
  116.  says, "Error Can't Find MAPI.DLL"  TO DIABLE THIS ERROR MESSAGE:
  117.  
  118.  1. Start the windows Notepad program.
  119.  2. Type the following: NO MAIL
  120.  3. Choose Save from the File Menu.
  121.  4. Save the file in your Windows/System Directory with the name MAPI.DLL
  122.  5. Now when Zip Manager starts it will see this file and disable the
  123.    mail items on the menu and you will no longer get the error message.
  124.  
  125.  Maintenance Releases and Upgrades
  126.  ----------------------------------
  127.  All maintenance and minor version upgrades will be available ONLY on our
  128.  BBS. Since these releases will contain only the upgraded files it will
  129.  save you download time and keep the files on our board where they won't
  130.  inadvertently be downloaded as the complete program.

  133.                   New Features In Version 5.1
  134.  ===============================================================
  135.  
  136.  Full Network Support Now Standard
  137.  ---------------------------------
  138.  Since so many users have small networks we decided to make
  139.  network support standard in the shareware release of Zip Mgr.
  140.  It frees us from having to have a seperate disk and gives the
  141.  user the freedom to evaluate every feature of the program.  We
  142.  have added more robust support for file locking and error
  143.  trapping in version 5.1
  144.  
  145.  Full Use Of The Registration Database
  146.  ----------------------------------------------
  147.  In order to allow for multiple configurations and in keeping
  148.  with the Win32 API, Zip Manager now makes full use of the
  149.  registration database.
  150.  
  151.  Don't Forget The "Easy Check Out Feature"
  152.  -----------------------------------------
  153.  Since Zip Manager can create a new group for you right frrom the menu
  154.  or allow you to drag a program directly from an archive and drop it
  155.  on any program manager group to add it to that group.  All of these
  156.  features make it very easy to "Check Out" a new program with a minimum
  157.  of effort.  Also remember that all you have to do to "run" a program is
  158.  double click on it in any Zip or Arj file.
  159.  
  160.  FULL PKZIP Multiple Volume Support
  161.  ----------------------------------
  162.  Zip Manager now fully supports creating and extracting ALL or 
  163.  SELECTED files from a multiple volume Zip. Due to the way
  164.  that a multiple volume zip is created you MUST place the LAST
  165.  disk in the series in your floppy drive.  The last disk is the
  166.  ONLY one that contains the needed information about all of the
  167.  files contained in the zip file.  Once the files are selected
  168.  pkunzip will prompt you to put in the correct disk number.

  170.  Self Extracting Archive Support
  171.  -------------------------------
  172.  Zip Manager now fully supports self extracting EXE files as normal archive
  173.  files.  You double click on them to open them into the archive pane as you
  174.  would any other Zip or Arj file.  You can then perform any option available
  175.  to archive files on them.
  176.  
  177.  File Re-Naming Support On Extraction
  178.  -----------------------------------
  179.  If Zip Manager encounters a file with the same name when extracting a zip
  180.  file it gives you the option of entering a new file name. Only Zip Manager
  181.  and ARJ offer users this convenient option!

  183.  Directory Creation On Extraction
  184.  --------------------------------
  185.  Many users asked for this feature so that they could have a new directory
  186.  created if they wanted to when the Zip file was extracted. Zip Manager
  187.  can even create a multiple level directory.  If for example you entered:
  188.  c:\test1\test2\test3  Zip Manager would create that directory structure
  189.  and extract the files into the test3 sub directory!
  190.  
  191.  Drag and Drop Server
  192.  --------------------
  193.  Version 5 is now a Drag and Drop server, which means that you can drag
  194.  files from Zip Manager and drop them on any program or other file manager
  195.  for Windows to copy, move, or even add them to a program manager group.
  196.  This functionality applies to files in archives and normal files shown
  197.  in the directory pane.

  199.  . Dot and .. Double Dot Support
  200.  --------------------------------
  201.  This release supports the . and .. as target directories when creating
  202.  or extracting files.  You can enter a . or a .. in the target directory
  203.  combo box instead of typing in the full directory name.

  205.  Virus Detection Programs
  206.  ------------------------
  207.  Note:  In order for your virus detection program to work with Zip Manager
  208.  it MUST be able to accept command line arguments. Read the users guide
  209.  installation section for instructions on how to determine if your program
  210.  will work with Zip Manager.
  211.  
  212.  Possible Parameter Combinations For Virus Detection programs.

  214.  In the Zip Manager Setup Dialog Enter the following after the program
  215.  location name and directory.

  217.  For Example, X:\UTILITIES\NAVW.EXE /auto *.* /S would be the correct
  218.  command for the Norton Anti Virus for Windows Program.
  219.  
  220.  Listed below are the (sometimes) correct switch parameters for most popular
  221.  virus detection programs. You will most likely still need to experiment a
  222.  little to get some of them to work.  We use and recommend SCAN.EXE from
  223.  McAfee and Associates.
