TRAVELLING IN
NORTH AFRICA
TUNISIA
Country profile:
A good holiday
destination if you
want lazy,long hot
days on the beach
and not a lot else.
The hotels are of
excellent standard,
many built in
typical Moorish
style and all
usually close to
the beach.Nightlife
is limited and
traditional and is
normally centred
in the hotels where
all the bars are anyway.
The beaches are
beautiful and the
Tunisian climate
allows winter and
summer sun holidays.
Self-catering as
become more available
over the last few
years, but because
of the paucity of
shops is not
particularly
recommended.
Resorts:
Hammamet
Sousse
Monastir
Port el Kantaoui
Jerba
Nabeul
Sfax
Capital:Tunis
Pop:7,000,000
Currency:Dinar
(severe restrictions
on the import and
export of this!)
Language:Arabic
although English is
spoken widely in the
resorts.
Tour Ops from UK:
Panorama
Airtours
Enterprise
MOROCCO
Country profile:
Very popular up to
time of Gulf War but
took a severe nose
dive and is making a
very slow recovery-
featured by only a
few British Tour
Ops but INSPIRATIONS
is highly recommended.
The country for
tourism purposes is
split into two halfs.
In the north Tangier
as a city/beach
holiday, and in the
south Agadir/Marakesh
- in the middle the
resort of Rabat plays
quite a role as too
does the inland
town of Casablanca
- "play it again
Sam" etc......
UK visitors need a
ten year passport
but do not need a
visa.Morocco is
recommended for
older couples and
the more intrepid
sinles - but
not really suited
for famileies.

LIBYA:
The country is
effectively closed to

due to the regime of
Ghaddafi.At the time
of this disk being
prepared the British
Government is NOT
issuing visas.Entry
to Libya must be
effected from another
North African country.
Capital:Tripoli
Pop:3,500,000

(strict)

ALGERIA:
Travel to Algeria seems
to be limited to
business trips and the
country's political
stability is
precarious,discouraging
tourism. The British
visitor however and
other EEC nationals
do not require a
visa although this
situation does
fluctuate - check
before travelling!
