--------------------------------------------------------------------
This program is public domain which means you can make as many
copies of this program as you wish, but remains the copyright of John
J. Cassar.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This program is intended as a helping tool for anyone wishing
to learn one of these eight formats of communications, or languages.
These are :-
Two-handed Sign Alphabet
Deaf-Blind Sign Alphabet
One-handed Sign Alphabet
Braille
Semaphore
Flags
Morse Code
Naughts & Crosses Code
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ABOUT THE LANGUAGES
-------------------
* Two-handed Sign Alphabet - A two-handed sign alphabet used
to communicate with the deaf.
* Deaf-Blind Sign Alphabet - This alphabet is designed for use
with the deaf-blind whose understanding can be reached only through
the sense of touch. The left hand is that of the deaf-blind person,
the right that of the speaker, pressed firmly against it.
* One-handed Sign Alphabet - Same as the two-handed version
but this time as the name implies, only one hand is used.
* Braille - Invented by a Frenchman, Louis Braille in 1929. He
was blinded by an accident and evolved a system of raised dots which
the blind could read by running their fingertips across the surface.
* Semaphore - was used before the invention of the telegraph
to send messages between hills, towers and ships at sea. Although
semaphore has been largely superseded by radio, it is still used when
radio silence is necessary.
* Flags - Are used to signal between vessels. They were
developed in the seventeenth century by Admiral Sir William Penn and
at the eighteenth century Admiral Richard Kempenfelt devised a plan
similar to the international standard used today.
* Morse Code - was first demonstrated by an American, Samuel
F.B. Morse, in 1844. The code of dots and dashes, transmitted by
electric telegraph was later adapted to various forms of sound and
light signalling.
* Naughts & Crosses Code - is a fun code designed for anyone
wishing to write in a format only he/she or someone knowing the key to
the code, can understand. For example you can use this code/alphabet
to write your daily private thoughts in your diary, knowing, that even
if your diary is opened, no one can read what you have written. The
best thing about this code is that you do not have to remember every
letter in the alphabet, but only the key to the code.
The key to this code as the name implies is the naughts and
crosses board, or rather three boards, as can be seen from the Iff
picture included on this disk.
A font of this code (coded.font) is also include in the fonts
directory. This can be used in one of the many word processors that
prints what you see rather than using the printers own fonts. In this
way you can print whole documents using this code.

HOW TO USE THE PROGRAM
----------------------
To load the program, just boot the disk. The disk contains all
the necessary files. Names of programs, directories and the name of
the disk, must not be changed.
When booted the program will load a default language and
settings. To select a different language or change the settings, press
the escape key.
* Language selection -
Point mouse pointer to the up or down arrow and select the
language you wish to use.
* Learn -
If you wish to learn one of the languages, select this option.
When you return to the main screen, just press the letter you wish to
see and the program will show you its equivalent in your selected
language. On this version the program only handles the letters A to Z.
If I receive enough requests, I might add all the other keys including
numbers, on later versions.
* Test -
In this mode, the program will first shuffle the letters from
A to Z and then show you the letter in your chosen language one at a
time waiting for you to press an appropriate key. It will tell you if
you were correct or not. It will also keep a record on how you are
doing.
* Sentence -
Choosing this option allows you to enter a whole sentence
rather than single letter input. When you finish entering your
sentence press the return key. The program will translate your
sentence in your chosen language.
* Document -
This option allows you to load an ASCII file and translates it
to your chosen language, as above.
* Speed -
This increases or decreases the display of your selected
language. Mainly used for sentence and document reading.
* Use -
Will use the selected language and settings without changing
your default settings.
* Save -
Will save and use the selected language and settings. When you
boot the disk the program will now load your new saved settings.
* Cancel -
Cancels all new settings and returns you back to the previous
language and settings.
