Continuum --- Documentation ---

Game OverView:
Continuum is a totally new concept in maze gaming. The
object is simple: Seek out and capture 32 prize objects - 16 crystals
and 16 cubes - spread throughout the 256-room maze.
What makes Continuum unique amongst computer games is
astonishing, seemlingly endless universe - a colorful expanse of
shapes, colors and sounds. In addition, the vehicle you control -
know as Mobile - is a sleek, smooth craft gliding effortlessly
through each unique room. Finally, the rooms themselves pose
increasingly difficult challanges for even the most seasoned gamer.
Now, enter into Continuum.....

Game Basics:
After making game selections, you will enter into the
Welcome Room, the first leg of your journey. Each player will have
three minutes to make his or her way out of the windows to an
adjoining room. There are 256 rooms in which to search for 16
Crystals and 16 Cubes scattered throughout the Continuum universe.
You will be at the helm of one of six Mobiles. Your
Mobile bounces whenever it is directly on a colored platform. As you
bounce, momentum will cause your Mobile to bounce higher and higher
- much like a trampoline. Once you've got some elevation, you will
use your controls to guide the Mobile - like a glider - from
platform to platform, until you can make it to one of the windows
leading out the room.
Controlling your Mobile:
These are the commands that will control your mobile:
Action Keyboard Joystick
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Forward Thrust: Spacebar Fire Button
Left Turn: Left Direction Arrow Left
Right Turn: Right Direction Arrow Right
Rotate Camara Up: Up Direction Arrow Up
Rotate Camara Down: Down Direction Arrow Down
Rotating the camara view will allow you to visually scan the room you're
in. Other viewing and control options are fully detailed in the OPTIONS
section of this manual.
Action Mode:
In Action Mode, you can take on the challange of
Continuum in a one-player or two-player game. Action Mode offers the
ultimate test. It's you against the clock and the scoreboard - and
another player in two-player games. The object of the game is to
score the most points while capturing all the crystals and cubes you
can find.
You'll start the game with three minutes on the clock.
Each time you enter a new room, you'll receive can additional minute
on the clock. A bonus minute is also awarded for each 10,000 points
scored.
You will score points for "Flight time" - the longer your
Mobile is in flight, the more points you'll receive. You can also
gain points by capturing Bonus Objects that will appear throughout
the game. Once you capture a coverted crystal, you will gain an
additional 10,000 points.
In a two-player game, you will be racing to capture more
Crystals and Cubes than your opponent. Remember the object is to
score the most points through "Flight Time", entering a new room and
capturing a coverted Crystal. Only the player who masters all these
techniques will win.
Emotion Mode:
In Emotion mode, one player may explore each region of the
Continuum universe without the pressure of competition, time or
scoring. In Emotion Mode, you'll be asked to select the region to
explore.
The Continuum universe is broken down into 12 unique
that represent various human emotional states. The color, sound and
nature of the rooms in each of the regions have been scientifically
proven to stimulate the particular area of the human psyche
designated by the region's title, for example: Dream, Motivation,
Orientation, Stimulate, Energize, Relax, Adapt, Awaken, Develop,
Concentrate, Stamina, and Mediate.
After you select Emotion on the menu, a color-coded map of
the regions will be constructed on screen (you may bypass the
construction sequence by pressing the ESC key). Use the left and
right direction arrows to highlight the region you wish to explore,
then press the Enter key. While in the Emotion mode, you will be
restriced to exploring only rooms in the selected region. You will
not be able to access windows which lead you out of this region.
Top Scores:
To view all-time top scores, select TOP SCORES from the
Menu. To return to the GAME SELECTION SCREEN after viewing the
scores, press the ESC key.
Load Game:
To load a previously saved game (see SAVE GAME) select LOAD
GAME. Use the UP and DOWN directional arrows to highlight the game
you wish to load and press the enter key.
Game Options:
Memorize - Action and Emotion:
Memorize lets you experiment with different strategies
without risking loss of your total game should your strategy not
work out. Select MEMORIZE to place your current game position into
temporary memory. The game will only remain in memory while the
current game is active. For a long-term saving of your game
position, see SAVE GAME.
Memory Recall - Action and Emotion:
Selecting Memory Recall will restore the game to the exact
position - score, time, etc. - where the game was last Memorized.
Save Game - Action Only
In Action Mode, you may SAVE your current position and
resume the game at a future time. After selecting this option,
you'll be asked to enter a name for the file to be saved - up to
eight characters may be used as a file name.
Display Options:
Filled/Vector Background:
On certain systems the floors, walls, and ceilings may be
easier to distinguish if they are displayed simply as a vector
outline rather than as a filled block of color. Using FILLED will
display completely colored walls, floor and ceiling. VECTOR will
show only the outline of all background elements.
Filled/Wire Forms:
As with BACKGROUND, the Platforms, Cubes, Crystals and your
Mobile may be displayed as either filled blocks of color or simply
as wire-outlines. Toggle between FILLED and WIRE to choose your
preference.
Lock/Unlock Mobile:
This option controls the Mobile's sensitivity and degree of
response to left and right turns. With the Mobile LOCKED, it will
stop rotating as you release the controls after a left or right
turn. With the Mobile UNLOCKED, it will continue to spin freely in
any direction it's moved - even after you've released the control.
Lock/Unlock Camera:
The viewing Camera that allows you to visually scan the
room can be moved UP or DOWN. With the Camera LOCKED, it will
always return to it's "Neutral" or middle position after it is
moved UP or DOWN. With the Camera UNLOCKED, it is free to move to
any position you dictate and will remain in that position until you
manually return it to its neutral position.
Camera Vertical/Slant-On:
This option provides you with a steady view of the action
or a more dynamic - and more difficult - perspective. With the
Camera set to Vertical, your view will remain parallel to the
ground - regardless of your direction. With the SLANT-ON setting,
the camera will swerve and bank with your Mobile as you make left
or right turns.
Observer/Mobile View:
This enables you to switch between OBSERVER VIEW, which is a
third-person perspective of your Mobile, and MOBILE VIEW, which is
a first-person perspective from within the Mobile.
Note: There are a number of factors that can impact the difficulty of
the game. Even after you've mastered the basics, you'll have a long way
to go before you can master: Vector Background; Wire Forms; Unlock
Mobile; Unlock Camera; Camera Slant-On; Mobile View.
Map - Action Only:
In the Action mode, you can view a map of the 256-room
universe. A colored circle will appear in the room you currently
occupy. All rooms which you've already visted will be shown blacked
out. The remaining number of crystals and cubes (those you haven't
yet already captured) will be shown on either side of the MAP.
Good luck.
