Transcription: Promontory. The last spike of the Transcontinental Railroad was nailed at Promontory in 1869. This joined together the Eastern and Western Railroad tracks for the first time. Every May 10th, a celebration of this event called the Golden Spike Ceremony takes place at Golden Spike National Historic Site.
