  19.     The Program enables you to use a digitizertablet from Summagraphic
  20.     with your Commodore Amiga. The tablet can be used together with the
  21.     mouse (or without it) as direct_input medium.

  30. Introduction and legal stuff
  31.  
  32.     The Program enables you to use a digitizertablet from Summagraphic
  33.     with your Commodore Amiga. The amigamousepointer is controlled by
  34.     the driver for providing compatibility to nearly every program.
  35.  
  36. Legal stuff
  37.     The Summagraphic Driver is Shareware. If you want to use the program
  38.     you should send - after you have tested the program for about 14
  39.     days - the registration fee ($10.00 or more) together with the filled
  40.     registration form to the author.
  41.     You will receive the latest version of the driver and I'm working on
  42.     a template editor which will make it possible to send menu events and
  43.     rawkey events to programs. 
  44.     With your registration fee you are helping to develop (more) good
  45.     software for the Amiga. The version you are holding in your hand is
  46.     not crippled in any way.
  47.  
  48.     The software and all principles described here were developed strictly
  49.     using the Commodore Developer Guidelines. The package was extensively
  50.     tested and is considered to be free of errors. But there is nobody on
  51.     earth who is perfect. Therefore I MUST write the following lines. Read
  52.     them carefully.

  65.     Your are allowed to give the package to another party at any time if
  66.     you consider the following terms:

  68.     o The Summagraphic package may only be given away to another party in
  69.       complete and unchanged form. You are not allowed to delete files nor
  70.       to modify one or more files nor to add files to the package if you
  71.       want to give it away. Compression of the package is allowed as long
  72.       as all informations remain completely intact when decrompessing.

  74.     o The package may not be published on PD-Disks with a price greater
  75.       than $5 (US). Exceptions are PD-CD-roms, their price may be higher.

  77.     o Commercial use or trade of the package is only allowed after given
  78.       permission by the author. The Summagraphic Company is allowed to
  79.       accomplish and distribute their tablets together with this package.
  80.       This circumstance frees the person or company which buys the 
  81.       digitizer together with the package not from paying the Shareware
  82.       fee.

  84. Registering
  85.     If you want to use this program you should consider to become
  86.     registrated. The amount of the Shareware fee is 10.00 US$ (or 20.00
  87.     guilders). PLEASE do not send any other currencies. If you want to
  88.     send the money via bank order you should mention your name and address
  89.     on the bank order form. The directory of this document contains a
  90.     registration form with the filename "Register-E.Txt". Please print
  91.     it, fill it and send it together with the Shareware fee to:

  101. System requirements
  102.     If you want to use the Summagraphic Driver you will need at least
  103.     Kickstart and Workbench 2.04. And at least you need a Summagraphic
  104.     tablet.
  105.  
  106.     These are the tablets which are currently supported by the driver:
  107.  
  108.     o Summagraphic 1212   a 12x12 inch tablet
  109.     o Summagraphic 1812   a 18x12 inch tablet
  110.     o Summagraphic 1812D  a 18x12 inch tablet 
  111.     o Summagraphic  906   a  9x6  inch tablet
  112.     o Tablets with a Summagraphic Mode like Genitizer tablets
  113.     
  114.     The digitizer should be configured as delivered by Summagraphic.
  115.  
  116.     The driverprogram runs with any CPU which is currently used with the
  117.     Amiga. If you want to use the driver, a faster CPU is recommended
  118.     because if you are running on 68000 the mousepointer is a little bit
  119.     slow. The memoryusage of the driver is very low (about 25KB), it can
  120.     therefore be used together with any other programm. Together with
  121.     some mouse accelerators or "Sun Mouse" tools the mousepointer reacts
  122.     a little bit wild. If you got problems steering the mousepointer with
  123.     the tablet deactivate those tools.

  126. Installation
  127.     Installation is very simple. The driverprogram should be copied
  128.     together with its Icon in the WBStartup drawer on your bootpartition
  129.     (or in the WBStartup Drawer in the rootdirectory of your boootdisk).
  130.     There the program will automatically be activated every time you boot.

  132.     The absolute path for installing the driver should be:

  134.     SYS:WBStartup

  136.     To make installation easier there is a SHELL-Script, wich performs
  137.     all these actions mentioned above. Just start "Install" from SHELL
  138.     or Workbench.
  139.     The tablet must be connected to the serial port of your Amiga. If
  140.     you got a Multi-IO board with serial ports you can also connect the
  141.     tablet there.

  144. Usage and Configuration
  145.     The Summagraphic Driver is a so called Commodity. Commodities are
  146.     linked in the input data stream of the Amiga and are sending/filtering
  147.     Inputevents. The Driverporgram was developed for the WBStartup drawer
  148.     of the WB (WB = Workbench). There it is started whenever the Workbench
  149.     is loaded. The driver can only be started once. When it is started for
  150.     the second time and the first program is still active in memory the
  151.     first program will open a requester asking if it is ok to quit. The
  152.     driver can also be started from any other drawer from the Shell or from
  153.     the WB. The program takes a couple of parameters from the user when it
  154.     is started. If you start it from WB the so called TOOLTYPES are used.
  155.     These tooltypes are stored in the Icon of the program.

  158. The Icon Tooltypes
  159.  
  160.        CX_PRIORITY    (Default: 120) The priority of the commodity.
  161.                       Normally the default value of 120 is no subject
  162.                       of change.
  163.  
  164.        HOTKEY         (Default: lalt lshift q) This is the hotkey which
  165.                       will quit the driver without the need for Exchange
  166.                       You get the chance to change your mind if it is
  167.                       used by accident. The other method to quit the 
  168.                       driver is send a CONTROL-C.
  169.  
  170.        X_RESOLUTION   (Default: 6000) The tablet is in a mode with a
  171.        Y_RESOLUTION   resolution of 1000 lines per inch, which gives a
  172.                       default active area of 6 inch by 6 inch. This can
  173.                       be changed with these tooltypes. Maximum values
  174.                       depend on which tablet you are using. Values larger
  175.                       than your tablet supports will be clipped to the
  176.                       maximum values.
  177.  
  178.        DEVICE         (Default: serial.device) Here is the name of the
  179.                       systems devicedriver stored which is used to com-
  180.                       municate with the Summagraphic-tablet. If the tablet
  181.                       is connected to a MultiIO board you must insert the
  182.                       name of the Multi-IO driver. If connected to the
  183.                       normal serial port this place should be filled with
  184.                       serial.device of left out because it is the default 
  185.                       setting. (Please refer also to the MultiIO board
  186.                       documentation)
  187.  
  188.        UNIT           (Default: 0) The default value must only be changed
  189.                       when the digitizer is connected to a MultiIO board.
  190.                       Insert the number of the MultiIO board's serial port
  191.                       to which you have connected the tablet. (Please
  192.                       refer also to the MultiIO board documentation)
  193.  
  194.        PUCK           (Default: 0) If you don't specify PUCK or STYLUS you
  195.                       get the default of a Stylus. The arrangement of the
  196.                       buttons on the Puck:       1=middle
  197.                                          2=left        3=right
  198.                                                  4=leftmiddle
  199.        STYLUS         (Default: 1) This is the default inputdevice for a
  200.                       tablet. Easy to use just like a normal pen. You can
  201.                       If you specify both PUCK & STYLUS you get a Puck.
  202.                       
  203.        DONOTWAIT      This tooltype is not used by the tabletdriver. It is
  204.                       used by the WB if you start from the WBStartup
  205.                       drawer.  The Summagraphic driver sets this tooltype
  206.                       automatically.

  209. SHELL Start
  210.     If you are starting the driver from the SHELL the icon tooltypes are
  211.     not read and passed to the program. You must therefore give all
  212.     parameters to the program by writing them separated by spaces behind
  213.     the program's name. If a parameter is equivalent to the default value
  214.     you need not write it in the commandline.

  216.     Example for a SHELL start:

  224.     which will give you all available options and their defaults

  227. Controlling the mouse
  228.     With activated driver the mousepointer can be controlled either with
  229.     the mouse or the tablet. The whole sensitive area of the tablet, or
  230.     a user selected area, with X_Resolution and Y_Resolution tooltypes,
  231.     represents the area on your monitor which can be reached by the
  232.     mouse. The top left edge corresponds to the top left edge on your
  233.     monitor. The bottom right edge corresponds to the bottom right edge
  234.     on the monitor. The buttons of the tablet's input devices are con-
  235.     nected to following functions:
  236.  
  237.        standard stylus:  A click with the tip is equivalent to a click
  238.                          on the left mousebutton. The switches on the
  239.                          side of the pen reacts like the right mouse-
  240.                          button (bottom switch) and middle mousebutton
  241.                          (top switch).
  242.  
  243.        digitizer:        This device has four buttons. Two of these but-
  244.                          tons (the top button in the middle and the bot-
  245.                          tom button in the middle) are for free usage in
  246.                          own applications. The left and the right button
  247.                          are having the same functions like your mouse.

  250. General notes
  251.  
  252.        o  Until now it is not possible to cause a scrolling of autoscroll
  253.           screens by direct use of the tablet. This will be possible in
  254.           one of the future versions.
  255.           It is possible to use the driver with autoscroll screens but
  256.           it is rather clumsy. If you need it use the special driver
  257.           named AutoScroll_SummDriver_CX
  258.  
  259.        o  Together with some mouse accelerators or "Sun Mouse"-tools the
  260.           mousepointer reacts a little bit wild. If you got problems
  261.           steering the mousepointer with the tablet deactivate those tools.
  262.           This problem occurs because some tools are not expecting
  263.           inputevents from a tablet.
  264.  
  265.        o  After accidently hitting of the resetknob on the back of the
  266.           tablet, it must be reinitialized which means quitting the program
  267.           and restarting it.
  268.  
  269.        o  The only program with problems is TV-Paint Jr and TV-Paint 2.0
  270.           The exact cause is unknown but is related to the use of
  271.           DELTAMOVE events. With TV-Paint 2.0 it is not a big problem because
  272.           it supports the Summagraphic tablet.

  274.        o  The next version will include a template editor and several ready
  275.           made templates (DPaint, Imagine, Workbench etc)
  276.
