VERSION
TauIcons 1.7
WHAT IS TAUICONS ABOUT
TauIcons is, obviously, about icons. I use the MagicWB icon collection
on my Workbench, and wanted to have the rest of the icons around in the
same look.
Here it is, a new revision of TauIcons. A few new icons, fix in the
default project icons (in the Special drawer), and DockIcons. using the
KMI template.
I thought about the dockicons for a long time. I would have wanted to
make them similar to the original MagicWB dockicons, but I simply hate
the template XEN used. It's too LARGE, taking up loads of valuable
screen real estate, and besides, doesn't have the kind of border I like
in dockicons.
I chose to use the KMI style template, rather than making my own, since
KMI seems to be the second important MWB dockicon style. It is smaller,
has the border, and all the images have two frames, unlike the MagicWB
dockicons.. Sorry, XEN, I feel you botched up in dockicons...
I've included some original MagicWB (by Martin "XEN" Huttenloher) icons
here, because I wasn't fully satisfied with them, and made some changes. I
thought you might want to see if my modified versions are better. I think
so. Basically, I animated the icons a bit. For example, in the HDToolBox
icon in MagicWB 1.2 the read/write head of the hard drive image didn't
move when you selected the icon. I made it move, and also animated the
wrench...
COPYRIGHT AND OTHER LEGAL MUMBO JUMBO
MagicWB is Copyright by Martin Huttenloher. See the MagicWB archive for
it's licence.
In this copyright notice, the term 'icon' refers not only to the Amiga
Workbench *.info icon files, but also to the images the icons consist of.
The icons here are Copyright 1993, 1994 by Osma Ahvenlampi, except for
the TauIcons.doc/Contents/Changes icon, the drawer icon, and MultiView,
HDToolBox and HDBackup icons, which are Copyright 1993 by Martin
Huttenloher.
You may not modify the icons for personal or public use or distribition
without a prior written consent from the author, Osma Ahvenlampi.
You may not use the icons, or the imagery of them, unchanged or not, on
any other platfrom besides Amiga.
These icons may be freely distributed via BBSs, InterNet/UseNet, software
libraries such as Fred Fish's and Aminet CD-ROM, and other similar
electronic channels, as long as the archive is not modified, either by
adding, removing, or modifying files in it. The only exception to this
rule is that the ICONS.lha containing the icons can be unarchived. Disk
magazines and services that charge extra for file transfers may not
distribute TauIcons.
If you wish to include one or several of the icons in this archive with
other software, contact the author, Osma Ahvenlampi, for the terms of
distribution.
By using these icons, you accept the full responsibility for any damage
or loss that may occur through their use. The author can not be held
responsible.
NONE of the icons may be used on any machine which is used for research,
development, construction, testing or production of weapons or other
military applications. This includes any machine used for training persons
for any of the above mentioned purposes.
IMPORTANT
This product is now Cardware. That means that if you use these icons,
you must send me a postcard to the address below. That shouldn't be too
hard to do. The previous versions were Giftware and I got an awesome
number of 4 gifts.
I'm not doing this for profit, as you can probably see. Changing the
status of this product to Cardware was done for two reasons:
1) I feel that asking money for icons is stupid. This is my statement
of this opinion.
2) I'm doing this as an experiment. I was pretty disappointment with
the result of the Giftware versions. Don't disappoint me now. I
really think that if you use these icons, mailing me a simple
postcard should not be that hard to do. I won't even try to count
to hours I've spent making these icons, you can now spend 5 minutes
making me happy.
Of course, if you want to send me a gift, I'm not saying you can't do
that too ;)
If you use some program that does not have a goodlooking MagicWB icon,
contact me, I might make one if I have the time to do it.
If you are an author yourself, and would like to have me make an icon for
your program, I'd be glad to do it for a copy of the program. The time
limitation applies here too, however, so I might not be able to help you.
INSTALLATION
The icons are inside another LhA file to make compression better.
I have a provided a sample ToolManager preferences file with the docks
set up. The Prefs editors and NewShell have an Exec object also, so that
the operation can be tested, but the rest of the games and tools have
only Image and Dock entries.
The docks can be viewed by doubleclicking the ToolManager_dock icon, if
ToolManager 2.1 is installed on the system. The Image entries will try
to look for the icons in a path "ICONS:TauIcons/DockIcons", so you will
have to assign ICONS: to the directory where you unarchived TauIcons.
Do not copy these icons over the icons on your Workbench. The icons do
not contain tooltypes, so by copying them you would lose all the setup
information contained in the icon.
For replacing the icon images, but leaving tooltypes and position
information intact, I use ICONtrol by Stefan Winterstein, found on Fish
disk 603. If you don't have it, get it.
Lately, several icon updaters have been released. Use anything you wish,
I still think ICONtrol is quite good.
I recommend you to install these icons in the following way:
NOTE:
This method requires you to have a certain amount of knowledge of how
to do things in the AmigaShell. If you don't know how to use AmigaShell,
or some other command line interface shell for Amiga, please ask someone
who does to make the installation for you. Unfortunately this installation
can not be automated, like the MagicWB installation, as the location of
the programs this archive provides icons for can and probably is different
on most systems.
1) Get ICONtrol, it is on Fish disk 603. The ftp site ftp.funet.fi has all
the Fish disks, in the directory /pub/amiga/fish.
You can use any other program that can change the icon image, and leave
the icon otherwise intact, but then you will have to modify the
installation accordingly.
Note that using the command ICONtrol in the Shell may result in running
of the program SYS:Prefs/IControl. To avoid this, either rename
ICONtrol so something else, or always provide also the path, for
example C:ICONtrol.
2) CD to the TauIcons directory.
3) Give the command
List ALL FILES LFORMAT "ICONtrol %n GETIMAGE %p%n" >T:InstallScript
4) Using your favorite text editor, edit the file T:InstallScript so that
the lines contain the path to the programs on your system. For example,
if you use Spliner as your screenblanker, you would probably change the
line
ICONtrol Spliner.info GETIMAGE WBStartup/Spliner.info
to
ICONtrol SYS:WBStartup/Spliner.info GETIMAGE WBStartup/Spliner.info
At this point, you should also remove the lines containing a command
to change an icon of a program you do not have on your system.
Use your imagination. For example, if you don't have a program called
Lens, but on the other have a program called MKS_Lens, by all means
use the Lens.info for MKS_Lens.
5) Save the edited file, and go back to Shell. Give this command:
Execute T:InstallScript
6) If the script executes without errors, you should now have TauIcons
installed on your Workbench. Enjoy!
