EYES!
A multi-tasking desktop accessory
by
Jason Dobbs
15.1.92
EYES! ?
EYES! is one of those useless things to have about that P.D. software
enthusiasts regularly acquire. Reggie Perrin would love it. It's purpose is
to raise a smile, and it does this by drawing a pair of eyes that keep looking
at where the mouse points, regardless of whatever else you might be doing. Fun,
fun, fun !!!
USAGE -- hacuna matata
EYES! is a desktop accessory, so put the file EYES.ACC on your bootup
disk, reset and you're away. It works in all resolutions, but I can't vouch for
TT or Stacy screen modes. The EYES! window is initially placed randomly on
desktop, but you can move it around to your hearts content. It hasn't got a
'close window' thingy on the window. To get rid of it, select EYES! from the
Desk menu and then click on 'SHUT' in the ensuing postcard (exit the postcard
by clicking the stamp). Pretty easy really.
One of the groovier things about EYES! is that it uses GEM for
something approaching multi-tasking. This means you can have up to six EYES!
windows going at once, if that's what takes your fancy. To do this, copy
EYES.ACC on to your boot disk under several different names e.g EYES1.ACC,
EYES2.ACC,... When you reset, you have as many EYES! windows as there are
copies of EYES.ACC. Note however, that this slows the computer down
considerably and the GEM limit of seven windows can be prohibitive.
BE CAREFUL
It is beyond my control whether the programs run at the same time as
EYES! are GEM-correct. If EYES! starts interfering with another program, the
simplest thing is to shut the EYES! window. It really isn't *that* important.
When you start a program or 'show' a file, all EYES! windows are shut.
This is an unfortunate fact of life - you'll just have to open them again from
the postcard.
I have heard tell that old, disk-based TOSes crash with this sort of
program. I haven't been able to check this, but anything after TOS 1.03 should
be O.K.
PUBLIC DOMAIN
Please pass this software on to your friends. Here's to the universal
sharing of the world's resources and knowledge.
P.S. pssst, send a postcard, too.
