Balldour v1.00
Written May 1994 By Rune Mork
Shareware
BLAH, BLAH:
~~~~~~~~~~
This is a small, simple shoot-em'up game written by a norwegian computer-
student. The thing was written in C++/asm, compiled with Borland C++ 3.1.
Balldour was NOT ment to be a "serious production", but a one-man try to
make a simple arcade game on the PC. Ever since I first got my IBM-compatible
computer I have missed the simple good old CBM'64-like kind of games, so I guess
that's what I've been trying to do something about.
(Isn't it nice to just start a game and immediatly understand the "task" of it,
instead of reading dozens of manual-pages etc. like almost any other PC-game?)
THE GAMEPLAY:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
If there are any doubts about the gameplay:
The object is to shoot all objects that tries to shoot you.
There are 16 levels (including 2 bonus-levels).
In the first 14 you must destroy all the bombing balls. (And pick up -NOT shoot-
fire-power and extra-life items.)
The 15th level is a "boss-level" and after having blasted your way through
this, you much guide your ship through the final "escape-level".
Sounds simple? Well it's not. (Unleass you cheat, o.c)
STARTING BALLDOUR:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the DOS-prompt you type BALLDOUR followed by an argument telling the program
the speed of your computer. Since the game was written in C++ it kinda slow if
you have a machine with clock slower than 20MHz. (Sorry! I know I'm no pro.)
EX: If you have a 486SX 25MHz, simply type: BALLDOUR 25
(Don't cheat on the speed - it really takes the fun out of the game!)
FILES:
~~~~~
The files that you should have on your harddisk after unpacking the compressed
file is:
BALLDOUR.EXE // The executable program
BALLDOUR.DOC // This ASCII-file
BALLDOUR.FRM // Register-form
DATA\ALFA.DAT // Binary data-files
DATA\BD1.PAL // ------- " -------
DATA\BD2.PAL // ------- " -------
DATA\SCENES.DAT // ------- " -------
DATA\SPRITES.DAT // ------- " -------
After running BALLDOUR the first time a highscore-file (HI.TBL) also will be
created.
IMPORTANT:
~~~~~~~~~
This is shareware, you may copy this program to and from anyone as long as you
don't charge any money for it. If you distribute it, please make sure all the
files listed above follows.
Formality: I am not responsible for any damage this program may cause to your
hardware. (What on Pluto could that possibly be??)
You can E-Mail me at: <morkr@novell.oih.no> | <morkr@saga.oih.no>
This was made in my spare-time (in fact while preparing for summer-exams) so if
you do like it - please send me a appropiate fee ($6-8 or so) and I will E-Mail
you some FANTASTIC cheats. Payment in the way that suits you. (Cash??)
To register, simply print the BALLDOUR.FRM. and post it ot E-Mail me.
(By typing: TYPE BALLDOUR.FRM > LPT1)
If I get some response I will add more levels and animation (and maybe GUS-
sounds!) to the game and put it on this site. Or maybe I (with friends) will
make new and better(!) arcades.
Anyway, thanks for reading, have a nice life!
Rune Mork
