ETL.IMG
DATA DESCRIPTION
ETL.IMG is a 24 bit scanned image of the Engineer Topographic
Laboratories at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The image was created
using ETL's Image Digitizing System (IDS) from an original film
positive NAPP 1:40,000 color I.R. image. RGB filters were used to
break the image into its four seperate spectral components (green,
red, and infrared).
The IDS uses a CCD array to scan imagery down to resolutions
as fine as 7.5 microns. ETL.IMG was scanned at 30 microns and has
a resolution of 850 dots per inch. This translates to a ground
resolution of approximately 1.7 meters/pixel. The IDS is a
photogrammetrically precise instrument as well as an image
processor. Image orientation may be measured on the system and
enhancements can be made to imagery and written out as a 'new'
image file.
