  19. ISSUES
  20.  
  21. 1. When running VirusScan for Windows v3.1.0 with
  22.    Sound Blaster16 drivers, you may experience
  23.    difficulties accessing Windows upon rebooting the
  24.    system.
  25.  
  26. 2. When VShield is password-protected and configured
  27.    for Centralized Alerting, .ALR files are not created.
  28.

  30. RESOLUTION
  31.  
  32. If such difficulties are encountered, use this patch
  33. to remedy the issue. The patch resolves driver 
  34. incompatibility issues responsible for this error.
  35.  
  36. This patch replaces the MCFSHOOK.386 driver with
  37. one that is compatible with Sound Blaster16 drivers.
  38. This patch also replaces the VSHWIN.EXE file to resolve
  39. the issue with VShield Centralized Alerting and password
  40. protection. After running this patch on your Windows 
  41. 3.1x system, these issues will be resolved and the 
  42. installed version of VirusScan will be upgraded 
  43. automatically to v3.1.0a.

  48. INSTALLATION

  51. **NOTE**
  52. This patch can be installed using either of the two options 
  53. below. You need only select one option to install the patch;
  54. it is not necessary to use more than one option.
  55.  
  56. If you choose OPTION 2, you must unload Vshield 
  57. before running the SETUP.EXE file included in this patch. 
  58. For information on unloading VShield, see the VirusScan User's 
  59. Guide. If Vshield is not unloaded, issues may arise because a 
  60. file that is in use by Windows (VShield) is being overwritten 
  61. by the patch.

  64. *OPTION 1*
  65.  
  66. 1.  Reboot the computer to DOS
  67.  
  68. 2.  Copy the following Windows 3.1x VirusScan files:
  69.  
  70.     MCFSHOOK.386  (found in Windows 3.1x system directory)
  71.         VSHWIN.EXE    (found in McAfee VirusScan (default: 
  72.                        C:\McAfee\Viruscan) directory)
  73.  
  74.     to a temporary working directory such as C:\TEMP. This will 
  75.     back up your current files.
  76.  
  77. 3.  Copy the following files from V31PATCH.ZIP:
  78.  
  79.     MCFSHOOK.386 (copy to Windows 3.1x system directory)
  80.     VSHWIN.EXE   (copy to McAfee VirusScan (default: 
  81.                       C:\McAfee\Viruscan) directory).
  82.  
  83. 4.  The computer will need to be restarted for the changes to 
  84.     take effect.

  87. *OPTION 2*
  88.  
  89. **NOTE**
  90. Make a backup copy of the SYSTEM.INI file before completing
  91. the steps below.
  92.  
  93. 1.  Edit the SYSTEM.INI file located in the Windows 3.1x 
  94.     directory. You can do this by editing opening the file 
  95.     with any text editor.
  96.  
  97. 2.  In the [386 Enh] section of the SYSTEM.INI file, type 
  98.     REM in front of the line "device=VSBPD.386." The line 
  99.     should resemble the following:
  100.  
  101.       REM device=VSBPD.386
  102.  
  103. 3.  Save the new changes and exit the text editor.
  104.  
  105. 4.  Open a Windows session and run the SETUP.EXE file 
  106.     included in V31PATCH.ZIP. You must restart the system 
  107.     for the changes to take effect.
  108.  
  109. 5.  When the system has restarted, edit the SYSTEM.INI file
  110.     again. Remove the REM that was placed in front of 
  111.     "device=VSBPD.386" in your SYSTEM.INI file.

  113. 6.  Save changes and exit text editor.

  116. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  117.  
  118. 1.  This patch only supports VirusScan 3.1x v3.1.0
  119.     and is not intended for use with versions 3.0.0
  120.     and 3.0.1.
  121.  
  122. 2.  Upon running this patch, the VShield TSR Awareness 
  123.     feature will be disabled.
