  7. The MSI working group met to discuss editing issues with the draft API
  8. specification.  The following changes were agreed to:
  9.  
  10.  
  11.   1. The method of passing optional arguments as an array of flags and
  12.      pointers will be changed to using explicit parameters in the
  13.      procedure calls.  This will allow for easier implementations using
  14.      RPC.
  15.   2. The MSI document will be focused on defining management application
  16.      interfaces although it will include the msi_send_reply routine to
  17.      allow for replies to confirmed event reports and potential
  18.      manager-to-manager communications.
  19.   3. The MSI draft will be expanded to include explicit statements about
  20.      the services that will be provided to supply consistent service to
  21.      the management application independent of the underlying protocol.
  22.      This will be provided by adding a section to the document that
  23.      specifies explicit mappings from the MSI interfaces to each of the
  24.      underlying protocols.

  27. The document will be updated to reflect the results of these decisions
  28. and the new version placed in the internet-drafts directory.

  30. The following are still open issues:

  33.   1. Specification of the services needed from an `on line MIB data
  34.      service'.
  35.   2. Specification of the method for supporting security in the
  36.      management operations.
  37.   3. Specification of the services needed to translate agent names to
  38.      addresses.
  39.   4. Bring the event section into alignment with he work in the OIM and
  40.      Alertman working groups.

  43. It was agreed that there would be an ad hoc MSI working group meeting
  44. before the IETF meeting in Vancouver to address these open issues.  The
  45. meeting will be in Seattle WA at a date to be determined by the working
  46. group through the mailing list.
