  23. Scott Williamson presented an introduction on the main points of the
  24. RWhois protocol with hierarchical examples on how a registry can
  25. delegate information to sub-registries for network, domain, and contact
  26. information.  He then went on to discuss the current InterNIC
  27. Registration Services development status on the RWhois server and our
  28. current pushes -- namely the secondary and on-line editing capabilities.

  30. Discussion ensued on the current state of the centrally maintained
  31. server, the performance, and the configuration leading up to how RWhois
  32. would be able to assume that load.  It was felt by the InterNIC
  33. Registration Services that RWhois will be able to handle the load since
  34. RWhois allows for secondary servers to distribute the query load.  Scott
  35. Williamson proposed that minimally APNIC and RIPE house secondary
  36. servers.

  38. There were suggestions of various supplemental enhancements to the
  39. client as in auto-configuration for the root server, and reducing the
  40. functionality of the server by transferring the display capability of
  41. the server to the client.  It was also agreed to drop the requirement
  42. that a RWhois server support boolean operations from the next version of
  43. the specification.

  45. In order for RWhois to perform correctly, a minimal common attribute set
  46. for each object needs to be defined for the navigational elements.
  47. There was consensus within the group that the rwhois list should be used
  48. and quickly come to closure.

  50. At the conclusion, it was agreed that RWhois should become a working
  51. group in order to facilitate the operational deployment of RWhois within
  52. the Internet community.

  58. to the Operational Requirements Area Directors for review.
