  1.                ROCK AND ROLL
  2. Actually, most hip Mexican rock slang is merely
  3. English. You won't need translations to speak of
  4. "punk," "heavy metal," "rap," "jazz," "blues,"
  5. "country" or "rock" music. Those wishing to
  6. explore Mexican music might ask about RANCHERO or
  7. NORTEñO (cowboy, country music), CúMBIA or MúSICA
  8. TROPICAL (infectious Caribbean boogie music),
  9. BALADAS ("vocal" music), or BAILABLES (dance
  10. music). DISCO is both a record and a discotheque,
  11. a DISCOTECA is a record store. "Hits" are éXITOS
  12. or PEGADITOS; hit music is MúSICA DE MUCHO PEGUE.

  14. To play music in Spanish is TOCAR. Along with
  15. MúSICA ROCK, there are words like ROCANROLERO (a
  16. rocker, as in the TIMBIRICHE hit, EL GATO
  17. ROCANROLERO) and ROQUEAR meaning to rock, as in
  18. the expression ROQUEáNDOTE TODA LA NOCHE
  19. (rocking you all night long). An expression almost
  20. sure to get a laugh is "!QUEREMOS ROCK!" (We want
  21. rock), a tag line of a famous television comedian.

  23. While CINE is "the movies," by the way, "film" is
  24. PELíCULA and DE PELíCULA means "fabulous,"
  25. like something out of a movie. TODA LA PELíCULA
  26. (the whole movie), on the other hand, means "the
  27. whole nine yards," "the whole song and dance,"
  28. "the works."
