Fnordadel Goto Command Tutorial
The basic method of navigation in Fnordadel is the "goto" command. In
its simplest form (the single-key [G]oto command), it takes you to the next
room in the system which has new messages. When there are no more new
messages in the system, you're returned to Lobby> (which is where you started).
(New messages are ones which you haven't seen yet -- it doesn't matter
whether you've called a couple of times without getting to those messages.
The BBS only considers messages as having been read if you've been to the room
and [G]oto'ed out of it -- even if you didn't actually read the messages!)
The extended command ".G(oto) ROOMNAME" allows you to go directly to any
room in the system, new messages or not. "ROOMNAME" can be just a partial room
name if you don't want to type the whole thing out; the BBS will take you to
the first room which matches the supplied text. For example, typing
.G(oto) games
will take you to a room called "GAMES", or "Games People Play", or "SiLlY
gAmEs", or whatever.
.G(oto) can also be used to "unforget" public or normal private rooms that
you have used the [Z] command to forget about. You need to specify the exact
room name. See .H(elp) FORGET.
.G(oto) [?] will accomplish the same thing as the [K]nown command.
If you are in floor mode, you can use the ";G(oto) FLOORNAME" to go to the
first room in the named floor. "FLOORNAME" can be a partial floor name. The
command can't be used to unforget an entire floor forgetten using ;Z,
unfortunately.
As mentioned above, when you use [G]oto to leave a room, all messages in
that room are assumed to have been read, even if they haven't been. If you
accidentally hit [G]oto and want to pretend you didn't, use the [B]ackup
command (or its older clone, [U]ngoto, which may not be available). It takes
you backwards, and makes the messages in the last room new again. You can use
[B]ackup up to 16 times to reverse your steps.
There is also an extended ".B(ackup) ROOMNAME" command (and its clone,
.U(ngoto), which may not be available). "ROOMNAME" may be just a partial room
name, as with .G(oto). This command takes you directly to a room (which you
presumably left earlier using .G(oto) and returns the appropriate messages in
it to "new" status.
