Solutions' installation
-----------------------
KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL DISK WRITE-PROTECTED AND BACK IT UP.
DO NOT INSTALL SOLUTIONS _ON_ THE ORIGINAL DISK.
Solutions' installation procedure is necessary in order for the program to
be decrypted and installed on your destination disk. (Note: the demo version
program is not encrypted, so simple file copies would work but we still
recommend using the installation program.)
Solutions needs a machine with at least one megabyte (1 Mb) to run.
The installation will also require a one-megabyte machine in order to work
properly. Having more than 350K of accessories and AUTO programs on a 1 Mb
machine may cause some problems with the installation.
OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS
-----------------------
The installation will ask you a few simple questions. You may abort the
installation at any "Cancel" button. You may install Solutions as many time
as you wish. After you make all your choices, you will be shown a dialog box
to confirm them. At that point, check if anything is incorrect, this is your
last chance to abort the installation.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTALLATION
----------------------------------------
Solutions' installation will first ask you if you wish to install Solutions
on an existing folder (press [ OK ], the program will then ask you in what
folder you wish to install Solutions), or if you wish to create a new
SOLUTION folder (press [ Create ], the program will then ask you where the
folder should be created).
The installation asks you what is your boot disk (usually drive C: when
you have a hard disk, and usually drive A: when you boot from floppy). If
you boot from floppy, you will be asked if you want to create a boot disk
for Solutions (if you do not create this boot disk, you may not have enough
disk space on your floppy to install everything). When you choose to create
a boot disk, some of the following procedures are bypassed.
Solutions works with GDOS, so it will build the required ASSIGN file for
you. To do so, the installation needs to know certain things. You will be
asked to locate your GEMSYS folder [ Choose ] or to create a new one
[ Create ]. This folder contains all your GDOS fonts (*.FNT) and
drivers (*.SYS).
You will then be asked if you wish to create a new ASSIGN file [ Create ]
or if you wish to insert the information into an existing ASSIGN file
[ Insert ]. Inserting information into an existing ASSIGN file means that
Solutions' special fonts will be added into your ASSIGN file leaving all
other fonts intact. You are then asked to choose the name of your ASSIGN
file. GDOS loads its ASSIGN file (ASSIGN.SYS) from the root directory of
your boot disk, so you should place your ASSIGN file there. If you use
DeskManager, you may want to place the ASSIGN file into the folder
\AUTO\DESKMGR\ and name it SOLUTION.SYS. This way, at boot time,
DeskManager will prompt you to choose an ASSIGN file among the ones that
are in \AUTO\DESKMGR\. Should you write over an existing ASSIGN file it
will be renamed with a .BAK extension.
You are then asked to choose one of the available GDOS printer drivers.
FX80.SYS is the standard driver for 9-pin printers. NB15.SYS is the driver
for Star NB15 printers. SLM804.SYS is the driver for the Atari SLM804
laser printer. SMM804.SYS is the driver for the Atari SMM804 printer.
You are then asked if you wish to copy GDOS onto the \AUTO folder of your
installation disk. You may want not to install GDOS if you already use it
or a substitute like GPlus+ for example (Solutions works well with GPlus+).
If you have purchased Solutions (i.e. it is not a demo version), you will
be prompted to enter your name and address. Enter your name and address
_as it appears_ on your registration card.
Finally, you are prompted to validate all your choices. If anything is
wrong, you may answer [ No ] and begin the installation from the start.
Once the installation begins, it may take some time as the program is
decrypted.
Should you have any problems with your installation, do not hesitate to
call us.
