OCR: Manuscripts A-M Various sizes Paris, Bibliothèque de l'institut de France In 1796, at Napoleon's direction, these manuscripts (1487-ca. 1515) were removed from Milan's Biblioteca Ambrosiana, along with the Codex Atlanticus. (The Atlanticus was returned in 1815.) Notes on painting, perspective, water, mechanics, and other topics are collected in Manuscript A. Manuscript B, the earliest (ca. 1487-90), contains drawings of weaponry and flying machines, as well as designs for centrally planned churches. Manuscript C preserves Leonardo's notes for a treatise on light and shadow; Manuscript D is a treatise on the eye. Notebooks E, F, and G are largely devoted to scientific subjects.
