Although wise enough to preserve the sheets, Leoni destroyed their original order, and he dispersed elements of a single sheet across multiple pages of the album. He mounted the notes and fragments Codex Atlanticus on a paper size known as atlantico, used for atlases, and Various sizes from this the album acquired its name. In this codex, whose Milan, Biblioteca Ambrosiana components range in date from about 1478 to 1518, science is the prevailing subject, including statics, dynamics, and engineering. Also included are notes on artillery and weaponry, as well as early drawings for a flying machine.
