OCR: Leonardo entered the service of Cesare Borgia as a military engineer in 1502. Cesare, his forces, and Leonardo spent the autumn months of that year at Imola, a town at the northern edge of Cesare's territory. Presumably, Leonardo executed this map during that tenure. Unprecedented in its beauty and accuracy, the map presents the town as a ground plan with every house and structure delineated. To create it, Leonardo combined details from an existing map, measurements he recorded using surveying tools, and distances he paced out while walking the streets. Map of Imola 1502, pen and ink and watercolor 17 1/4 x 23 11/16 in. (43.8 x 60 cm) Windsor, Royal Library 12284
