IBM PC LAN Program Environment
For Ethernet LAN Adapters
INSTALLATION GUIDE
This software is licensed by SMC for use by its customers only.

This installation guide describes:
o How to use EZStart to copy the IBM PC LAN program (PCLP)
environment driver from the SuperDisk to your PC.
o How to install the IBM PC LAN program environment driver on
a workstation and a PC.
COPYING THE DRIVER FILES
From the EZStart Driver Installation screen, select 'Copy Files'
to copy all the files used by this driver from the SuperDisk to the
Destination Directory recommended by EZStart, or to a different
directory that you specify.
The EZStart default Destination Directory is a:\NDIS. Please make
a backup copy of your SuperDisk before EZStart copies files to the
SuperDisk to create an "option" diskette.
INSTALLING PC LAN PROGRAM WORKSTATION
1. At the DOS prompt, insert the SMC or IBM LAN Support Program (LSP)
Version 1.3x diskette.
2. Type: DXMAID
3. Press the Enter key three times.
The Environment Information screen appears.
4. Specify the following values for the fields on this screen
(if necessary, use the spacebar to change the options to the
settings shown below):
For LSP v1.30 and 1.33:
Configuration for this computer? Yes
Use existing configuration information? No
Do you have adapter option diskettes? Yes
Are you configuring for two adapters? No
Source for LSP A:\
Target for new configuration C:\LSP
For LSP v1.35:
Are you updating an existing configuration? No
Do you have driver diskettes: Yes
Target for LSP: C:\LSP
CONFIG.SYS to update: C:\CONFIG.SYS
AUTOEXEC.BAT to update: C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
5. Press Enter to store your choices.
The program prompts you to install the "option" diskette.
6. Install the SuperDisk in your source drive and specify the
path: A:\NDIS. Then press Enter.
The necessary files are copied from the SuperDisk to your
target directory on the hard disk.
7. LSP v1.30 and 1.33 users: Press Enter two times.
LSP v1.35 users: Press Enter once.
The necessary files are copied from the SuperDisk to your target
directory on your computer's hard disk.
8. When prompted, re-insert the LSP diskette and press Enter.
9. Insert the LSP diskette and press Enter.
The Current Configuration screen appears with "SMC EtherEZ for
DOS."
10. Press F4. LSP is installed.
11. Use any text editor to edit the CONFIG.SYS file. Specify at least
20 files in the FILES= line; for example:
files=20
Once you save your CONFIG.SYS file, reset your computer.
12. If you are using DOS v5.0 or later, type:
SETVER CIP_MAIN.EXE 5.00
at the DOS prompt and press Enter. Then reset your computer.
13. Insert the PC LAN Install Diskette in your computer's diskette
drive.
14. Type: INSTALL
15. Press Enter.
16. Press Enter three more times.
17. Select the level of function for this workstation, either "Base
Services Only" or "Extended Services". Most of the time, select
the second option.
18. Specify "Workstation".
19. Specify either "Send messages" or "Send, receive, and log
messages" options. Most of the time, select the second option.
20. Specify the target path for the PC LAN files. The default
pathname is C:\DOS.
21. Specify the machine's ID and the domain ID. The domain ID must
be the domain server ID and must be the same for all workstations
on the network.
22. Follow the prompts to complete the installation until you reach
the Change System Configuration File screen. Usually, you should
accept the default for the system configuration file.
The Change System Batch File screen appears. Usually you should
accept the default.
INSTALLING PC LAN PROGRAM SERVER
The following section provides instructions for installing PC LAN
on a server. This procedure uses the LAN Support Program (LSP)
to facilitate the installation process.
1. At the DOS prompt, insert the LSP diskette.
2. Type: DXMAID
3. Press Enter.
4. Press Enter twice.
The Environment Information screen appears.
5. Specify the following values for the fields on this screen:
Configuration for this computer? Yes
Use existing configuration information? No
Do you have adapter option diskettes? Yes
Are you configuring for two adapters? No
Source for LSP A:\
Target for new configuration C:\lsp
6. Press Enter to store your choices.
The program prompts you to install the "option" diskette.
7. Insert the SuperDisk in your source drive and specify
the path: A:\NDIS.
8. Press Enter.
The necessary files are copied from the SuperDisk to your
target directory on the computer's hard disk.
9. Press Enter three times.
10. Insert the LSP diskette into your computer's disk drive.
11. Press Enter.
The Current Configuration screen appears with the SMC Ethernet
adapter and protocols already selected.
12. Press F4. LSP is installed.
13. Use any text editor to edit the CONFIG.SYS file. Specify at
least 20 files in the FILES= line; for example:
files=20
Once you have saved the CONFIG.SYS file, reset the computer.
14. Insert the PC LAN Install Diskette in your computer's disk drive.
15. Type: INSTALL
16. Press Enter.
17. Press Enter three more times.
18. Select the level of function for this workstation: either "Basic
Services Only" or "Extended Services." Most of the time, select the
second option.
19. Specify "Server".
20. Specify either "Send messages" or "Send, receive, and log
messages" options. Most of the time, select the second option.
21. Specify the target path for the PC LAN files. The default
pathname is C:\DOS.
22. Specify the machine's ID and the domain ID. The domain ID must
be the domain server ID and must be used by all workstations
on the network to communicate with the server.
23. Follow the prompts to complete the installation until you reach
the Change System Configuration File screen. Usually, you should
accept the default for the system configuration file.
The Change System Batch File screen appears. Usually, you should
accept the default.
