  5.    A. Installation

  7.       1. Click the 'Network' icon in the Control Panel Group.

  9.       2. Click the 'Add' button in the 'Network' Dialog Box.

  11.       3. Select the 'Adapter' and click the 'Add' button in the 'Network'
  12.          Dialog Box.

  14.       4. Click the 'Have Disk' button in the 'Select Network adapters' Dialog
  15.          Box.

  17.       5. Insert this driver disk into drive A:, type the path A:\WINNT40,
  18.          and click the 'OK' button.

  20.       6. When the 'Winbond W89C840 Based 100M/10M PCI Adapter' dialog box
  21.          appears, press <Enter>.

  23.       7. If more than one 840 card is installed on your computer, select a
  24.          specified 840 card by inputing Ethernet ID.

  26.          Select the 'Winbond W89C840 PCI Ethernet Adapter' item in the
  27.          'Network' Dialog Box.
  28.          Click the 'Advanced' button.
  29.          Select the 'Selected Ethernet ID' item.
  30.          Type the Ethernet ID.
  31.          Click the 'OK' button.

  33.       8. When you finish the installation procedure, click the 'OK' button.

  35.       9. Restart your computer.

  38.    B. Parameters
  39.  
  40.       1. BurstLen     = 32 dwords
  41.          Burst Length defines the maximum number of long words that can be
  42.          transferred within one PCI burst transaction.
  43.          The reasonable values are "1 dword", "2 dwords", "4 dwords",
  44.          "8 dwords", "16 dwords" and "32 dwords".

  46.       2. CacheAlign   = 32 dwords
  47.          Cache Alignment defines the address boundary for data burst.
  48.          The reasonable values are "8 dwords", "16 dwords" and "32 dwords".

  50.       3. Threshold    = full packet
  51.          This value decides the transmit threshold level of the transmit FIFO.
  52.          Transmission will start immediately after the transmit FIFO has
  53.          reached the threshold level or full pkt has been transferred to the
  54.          transmit FIFO if the frame length is less than the transmit threshold
  55.          level.
  56.          The reasonable values are "full packet", "16 bytes", "80 bytes",
  57.          "96 bytes", "128 bytes", "256 bytes", "512 bytes" and "1024 bytes".

  59.       4. LineSpeed    = AutoDetect
  60.          This adapter can be operationed in 10M or 100M Mbps.
  61.          The reasonable values are AutoDetect(auto detect line speed by the
  62.          driver), 10M(set the line speed is 10M) and 100M(set the line speed
  63.          is 100M).

  65.       5. FullDuplex   = AutoDetect
  66.          This adapter can be in half or full duplex mode. In half duplex mode,
  67.          the W89C840 can only either transmit or receive. In full duplex mode,
  68.          the W89C840 can transmit and receive at the same time.
  69.          The reasonable values are AutoDetect(auto detect full duplex function
  70.          by the driver), Disable(disable full duplex), and Enable(enable full
  71.          duplex).

  73.       6. SelectedID
  74.          This parameter is necessary when your system is equipped with
  75.          multiple W89C840 cards.  For each driver, you must assign a unique
  76.          physical address. The value of this parameter is a hexadecimal string
  77.          of 12 digits.

  79.       7. Nway  = On
  80.          The parameter 'Nway' is used to disable or enable the
  81.          autonegotiation function. The default value of nway is on. The
  82.          reasonable values are OFF(disable the nway function) and ON(enable
  83.          the nway function).
