  5.    A. Installation

  7.       1. Double-click the 'Control Panel' icon in the 'Main' Program Group.
  8.  
  9.       2. Double-click the 'Network' icon from the 'Control Panel' Window.

  11.       3. Click the 'Add Adapter' Button in the 'Network Settings' Dialog Box.

  13.       4. When the 'Add Network Adapter' Dialog Box appears, select the
  14.          '<Other> Requires disk from manufacturer' item in the list of network
  15.          cards and then press <Enter>.

  17.       5. Insert this driver disk into drive A:, type the path A:\WINNT35X,
  18.          and then press <Enter>.

  20.       6. Select the 'Winbond W89C840 Based 100M/10M PCI Adapter' item in the
  21.          'Select OEM Option' Dialog Box and click the 'OK' Button.

  23.       7. If there is only one 840 card in your system, click the 'Ignore'
  24.          button when the 'Input Ethernet ID' Dialog Box appears. Otherwise,
  25.          type Ethernet ID when the 'Input Ethernet ID' Dialog Box appears and
  26.          then click the 'OK' button.

  28.       8. Bind the adapter to the transport drivers by choosing the 'Binding'
  29.          Button in the 'Network Settings' Dialog Box.

  31.       9. When you finish the installation procedure, click the 'OK' button.

  33.       10.Restart your computer.

  36.    B. Parameters
  37.  
  38.       1. BurstLen     = 32 dwords
  39.          Burst Length defines the maximum number of long words that can be
  40.          transferred within one PCI burst transaction.
  41.          The reasonable values are "1 dword", "2 dwords", "4 dwords",
  42.          "8 dwords", "16 dwords" and "32 dwords".

  44.       2. CacheAlign   = 32 dwords
  45.          Cache Alignment defines the address boundary for data burst.
  46.          The reasonable values are "8 dwords", "16 dwords" and "32 dwords".

  48.       3. Threshold    = full packet
  49.          This value decides the transmit threshold level of the transmit FIFO.
  50.          Transmission will start immediately after the transmit FIFO has
  51.          reached the threshold level or full pkt has been transferred to the
  52.          transmit FIFO if the frame length is less than the transmit threshold
  53.          level.
  54.          The reasonable values are "full packet", "16 bytes", "80 bytes",
  55.          "96 bytes", "128 bytes", "256 bytes", "512 bytes" and "1024 bytes".

  57.       4. LineSpeed    = AutoDetect
  58.          This adapter can be operationed in 10M or 100M Mbps.
  59.          The reasonable values are AutoDetect(auto detect line speed by the
  60.          driver), 10M(set the line speed is 10M) and 100M(set the line speed
  61.          is 100M).

  63.       5. FullDuplex   = AutoDetect
  64.          This adapter can be in half or full duplex mode. In half duplex mode,
  65.          the W89C840 can only either transmit or receive. In full duplex mode,
  66.          the W89C840 can transmit and receive at the same time.
  67.          The reasonable values are AutoDetect(auto detect full duplex function
  68.          by the driver), Disable(disable full duplex), and Enable(enable full
  69.          duplex).

  71.       6. SelectedID
  72.          This parameter is necessary when your system is equipped with
  73.          multiple W89C840 cards.  For each driver, you must assign a unique
  74.          physical address. The value of this parameter is a hexadecimal string
  75.          of 12 digits.

  77.       7. Nway  = On
  78.          The parameter 'Nway' is used to disable or enable the
  79.          autonegotiation function. The default value of nway is on. The
  80.          reasonable values are OFF(disable the nway function) and ON(enable
  81.          the nway function).
