  4. The setup program for these disks require the decompression program
  5. PKUNZIP.EXE. The MPC Wizard can't provide this program, but you can
  6. download the shareware version from most computer bulletin boards.

  16.         ** IMPORTANT VIPER VLB SOFTWARE INSTALLATION NOTES **
  17.  
  18. 1.      DO NOT INSTALL THE VIPER VLB WINDOWS 3.1 DRIVERS INTO YOUR WINDOWS
  19.         DIRECTORY. DUPLICATE FILES NAMES EXIST!!
  20.  
  21. 2.      It is best to use the VPRMODE.EXE utility to properly configure
  22.         the Viper VLB for your monitor BEFORE using Windows 3.1 or AutoCAD.       
  23.  
  24.    !!!  BEFORE USING THE VIPER VLB WINDOWS 3.1, USE  GO.EXE TO INSTALL !!!
  25.    !!!  THE VIPER VLB UTILITIES, AND USE VPRMODE.EXE TO PROPERLY       !!!

  29.         ** IMPORTANT WINDOWS 3.1 DRIVER INSTALLATION/CONFIGURATION NOTES **
  30.  
  31. 1.      Start by running the GO utility from the floppy disk.  If this
  32.         is your initial install of the Viper utilities or if the system
  33.         finds an old version of the Viper.ini file, you will be prompted
  34.         to enter a path for the new Viper utilities.  The default is:
  35.         C:\VIPER.
  36.  
  37. 2.      Once this procedure is complete, you can select the Windows 3.1 
  38.         option.  The GO utility will then copy all the Windows files to 
  39.         your hard drive.
  40.  
  41. 3.      When GO has finished copying the files, you will be prompted
  42.         for the location of your Windows sub-directory.  The GO utility
  43.         will then modify the [MMCPL] section of your Control.ini file with 
  44.         the line:  "TurboWin=<Path of Viper Windows files>\TURBOWIN.DLL".
  45.  
  46. 4.      Now entering Windows using the standard VGA driver supplied by
  47.         Microsoft.  The Diamond Viper icon will now appear in the Control
  48.         Panel and allow you to change resolutions, colors, and fonts.

  50. UTILITY FILES
  51.  
  52. VPRMODE.EXE     command line and menu driven mode and monitor setting 
  53.                 utility.  Use VPRMODE.EXE to configure the Viper VLB 
  54.                 for your particular monitor, to change the VIPER VLB 
  55.                 memory address, to select a text display mode, and to
  56.                 run Viper VLB diagnostics.
  57.                 VPRMODE saves monitor timing information to the 
  58.                 VIPER.INI file.  
  59.                 
  60.                 NOTES:  1. use VPRMODE ? for command line option list. 
  61.                         
  62.                         2. the VPRMODE monitor configuration save screen          
  63.                            may be displayed after running some of the
  64.                            VPRMODE commands.  If this happens, select 
  65.                            ENTER to save. The screen will not appear again.
  66.                         
  67.                         3. KNOW YOUR MONITOR! Please refer to your monitor
  68.                            manual or manufacturer for correct monitor timing
  69.                            information before running VPRMODE, and before
  70.                            contacting Diamond for technical assistance. If
  71.                            you do not have this information, DIAMOND WILL
  72.                            NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU with VPRMODE problems.
  73.                            
  74. VIP.EXE         utility which will display or write to a file important
  75.                 system configuration information which can be used as 
  76.                 an aid in trouble-shooting. Type VIP to display to screen, 
  77.                 and VIP <filename> to save to a file.
  78.  
  79.                 NOTES:  1. the VPRMODE save configuration screen may be 
  80.                            displayed after running VIP.  If this happens,
  81.                            select Enter to save.  The screen will not  
  82.                            appear again.

  84. VDIAG.EXE       diagnotic utility which will display color test patterns       
  85.                 in each resolution supported.
  86.  
  87.                 NOTES:  1. to test extended modes, load the VESA BIOS 
  88.                            extentions before running VDIAG.  This can
  89.                            be done by typing  VPRMODE VESA at the command
  90.                            prompt.
  91.  
  92. CHKPATH.EXE     utility which checks the PATH environment variable for the          
  93.                 specified string.  Is used in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file with
  94.                 the VIPERPATH statement.
  95.  
  96. VIPER.INI       this file is used to store the monitor and configuration
  97.                 information for the Viper VLB, and is updated each
  98.                 time you choose to Save Configuration from the VPRMODE.EXE
  99.                 program.  Drivers find the location of the VIPER.INI file
  100.                 by checking the VIPERPATH environment variable. 
  101.  
  102. VIPERPATH       an environment variable which is used by device drivers
  103.                 (Windows 3.1) to locate the VIPER.INI file.  
  104.                 This variable is set by the DOS SET command, and is 
  105.                 automatically appended to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file during
  106.                 Viper VLB Utility installation.

  109.                         !!!!!  IMPORTANT !!!!! 
  110.  
  111.                    THE VIPER.INI FILE AND THE VIPERPATH STATEMENT ARE
  112.                    NEEDED FOR PROPER USE OF THE VIPER VLB WINDOWS AND
  113.                    AUTOCAD DRIVERS!  DO NOT REMOVE THEM FROM YOUR SYSTEM.

  117. Windows NT Driver Installation
  118. ------------------------------
  119.  
  120. To load the drivers for Microsoft NT you must do the following.
  121.  
  122.  1. To customize the .DAT file for your particular card you must run SETMET.BAT
  123.     from the DOS prompt inside NT or DOS.  The options are as follows:
  124.  
  125.          SETMEM 2  - For a Viper with 2MB of memory
  126.          SETMEM 1  - For a Viper with 1MB of memory (except for rev A4-A7)
  127.          SETMEM 1A - For a Viper with 1MB of memory and is rev A4-A7
  128.                      (128Kx8 VRAM)
  129.  
  130.     You can also get this listing by running SETMEM with out any command
  131.     switches
  132.  
  133.  2. You must have Windows NT installed with the Standard VGA driver(640x480x16).
  134.    If you are running a different graphics mode please re-configure for
  135.    Standard VGA.
  136.  
  137.  3. Once you have confirmed that you are running in Standard VGA, place the
  138.     Viper VLB Disk 1 into the floppy drive.
  139.  
  140.  4. Open the Windows NT setup icon located in your Main program group.
  141.  
  142.  5. Select Options | Change System Settings...
  143.  
  144.  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the Display option and select
  145.     "Other Requires manufacturers Diskette."
  146.  
  147.  7. You will be prompted for the location of this diskette. The location is
  148.     A:\
  149.  
  150.  8. Select Close.
  151.  
  152.  9. Select your preferred resolution.
  153.  
  154. 10. You will be prompted for the location of a OEM Disk, this is the Disk 1
  155.     and the path is A:\
  156.     
  157. 11. Close out of the Windows NT setup, you will need to restart Windows NT
  158.     for the changes to take effect.
