  17.         INSTALLATION:
  18.         -------------

  20.         The OS/2 installation procedure is as follows.  Steps 1 - 9 are
  21.         required only for first time installation of the Stingray
  22.         drivers.
  23.  
  24.         1)      Under the OS/2 desktop, select the "OS/2 System" icon
  25.                 and then select the "Command Prompts" folder.
  26.  
  27.         2)      Select either the OS/2 Window or OS/2 Full Screen icon.
  28.  
  29.         3)      From the OS/2 command prompt, type DSPINSTL.  (For best
  30.                 results, close all seamless Windows and full screen
  31.                 applications before running DSPINSTL.)
  32.  
  33.         4)      Select "SuperVGA (SVGA)" from the list of available
  34.                 drivers and follow any prompts that DSPINSTL gives you.
  35.                 When DSPINSTL is completed, you will be returned to the
  36.                 command prompt.
  37.  
  38.         5)      Shut down OS/2 and reboot your system.
  39.  
  40.         6)      After OS/2 has rebooted, under the OS/2 desktop again
  41.                 select the "OS/2 System" icon and then select the
  42.                 "Command Prompts" folder.

  44.         7)      Select an OS/2 Window (either Desktop or Full
  45.                 Screen).
  46.  
  47.         8)      Insert Supplemental Drivers Diskette 1 into the floppy
  48.                 drive (e.g. A:)
  49.  
  50.         9)      If the floppy drive is A: and OS/2 is installed on C:,
  51.                 type:
  52.  
  53.                 A:      [to log onto the A: drive]
  54.  
  55.                 install.cmd a c
  56.  
  57.                 (Substitute different drive letters on the command line
  58.                 if necessary.  For help, just type "install.cmd" with no
  59.                 parameters.)
  60.  
  61.                 This installs the driver files on the hard drive.
  62.  
  63.  
  64.         10)     From the OS/2 command prompt, type DSPINSTL again.  (For
  65.                 best results, close all seamless Windows and full screen
  66.                 applications before running DSPINSTL.)
  67.  
  68.         11)     Select "Primary Display" and click on OK.
  69.  
  70.         12)     Select "Advance Logic, Inc." from the driver selection
  71.                 menu.
  72.  
  73.         13)     Select "Install Using Defaults for Monitor Type" from
  74.                 the "Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility" menu.
  75.  
  76.         14)     You will be prompted for the Video Refresh Rate
  77.                 Selection Menu.
  78.  
  79.                 IMPORTANT: If you are not sure of your monitor's maximum
  80.                 refresh rate, say "NO."  Selecting a refresh rate not
  81.                 supported by your monitor could lock up the system
  82.                 (possibly requiring a reinstall of OS/2), damage your
  83.                 monitor, or both.
  84.  
  85.                 If you select "YES," the AScanOS2 utility is invoked.
  86.                 AScanOS2 presents the scan rates available with
  87.                 Stingray.  Consult your monitor documentation and select
  88.                 the scan rates accordingly.  If you are not sure which
  89.                 scan rates to choose, select the lowest scan rates in
  90.                 each of the four columns.

  92.         15)     Select your desired display resolution from the list of
  93.                 available resolutions.
  94.  
  95.         16)     You will be prompted for Supplemental Display Driver
  96.                 Diskettes 1 and 2.
  97.  
  98.         17)     When DSPINSTL is completed, shut down OS/2 and reboot
  99.                 your system.
  100.  
  101.         NOTE: Your Stingray Supplemental Display Driver Diskettes are
  102.         shipped with volume labels DISP 1 and DISP 2.  If you make a
  103.         backup copy of your diskettes, use the DOS LABEL command to
  104.         label the copies accordingly.  If the Supplemental Display
  105.         Driver Diskettes do not have the correct volume labels,
  106.         installation will fail.

  109.         Changing Resolutions
  110.         --------------------
  111.  
  112.         To change the display resolution or pixel depth (number of
  113.         colors) at any time, follow steps 10 - 17.
  114.

  116.         Known Limitations
  117.         -----------------
  118.  
  119.         The following limitations have been observed:
  120.  
  121.         - At the 1024x768x256 resolution, if you open "Colors" in the
  122.           Control Panel under a Windows session, the Custom Color
  123.           Selector may be displayed incorrectly.  Use the right mouse
  124.           button to invoke the refresh command.  This will clear the
  125.           screen.
  126.  
  127.         - A General Protection Fault (GPF) may occur when running the
  128.           WinTach benchmark program under a seamless Windows session.
  129.  
  130.         - When running WinBench 3.11 under a seamless Windows session
  131.           and choosing the "Advanced Tests" option, portions of dialog
  132.           boxes and pull-down menus may be blank.  This error does not
  133.           occur in full screen Windows sessions.
  134.  
  135.         All of these symptoms have been observed on other video cards as
  136.         well, and IBM has been notified.
