  45.     The V7-MIRAGE graphic card is a product that offers significantly
  46.     enhanced features compared to other standard VGA graphic and 
  47.     accelerator boards.
  48.  
  49.       This particularly applies to  
  50.     - higher resolutions    and
  51.         - higher refresh rates.
  52.  
  53.     Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the 
  54.     features provided by the V7-MIRAGE, if the other components of 
  55.     your system, especially the graphic monitor that is being used,
  56.     also comply with the specifications of the V7-MIRAGE.
  57.   
  58.     (Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the 
  59.     V7-MIRAGE can obviously not be used with a monitor that is speci-
  60.     fied to only support resolutions up to 1024x768.)

  62.     The advantages of the "VESA Local Bus" can only be used with a
  63.     V7-MIRAGE (VL) board, if this card is installed in a PC system
  64.     with a VESA Local Bus interface.

  71.         For installing the SPEA V7 windows driver 'BigWin', please  
  72.         refer to the manual.

  79.     Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
  80.     for a specific non windows application.
  81.  
  82.     (1) First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-MIRAGE Super-
  83.         disk to the hard disk of your system.
  84.     This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the V7-MIRAGE
  85.     Superdisk.
  86.     Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and 
  87.     directories the applications are installed that you want to install
  88.     drivers for.
  89.  
  90.     - change to the V7-MIRAGE Superdisk and call INSTALL,
  91.     - select the language you prefer,
  92.     - and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.   
  93.  
  94.     (2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the  
  95.     applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The  
  96.     User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
  97.     supported by the V7-MIRAGE.

  101.     ║                    Monitor Selection                        ║

  104.     As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with the
  105.     V7-MIRAGE must comply to the specifications of the V7-MIRAGE.
  106.     Only then can the full functionality of the V7-MIRAGE be used.
  107.     
  108.     The User Manual and the file \SPEA\GDC\MNTMIR.BAT provide
  109.     detailed information on how to select and modify the various
  110.     monitor parameters (resolution and refresh rates).
  111.  
  112.                 *** IMPORTANT ***
  113.  
  114.     Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
  115.     Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven 
  116.     with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
  117.     If you change your monitor you have to compare the specification
  118.     and, if necessary, to change the resolutions / refresh rates!

  122.     ║                    Known Limitations                        ║

  125.     (1) It is not possible to use two or more VGA boards in one PC at 
  126.     the same time. 
  127.     In case you want to use the V7-MIRAGE board in a PC that has a 
  128.     VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, then this integrated
  129.     VGA interface must be disabled before the V7-MIRAGE may be used.
  130.  
  131.     (2) In some PCs of the Intel 386/25MHz series the V7-MIRAGE may only
  132.     be used as standard VGA card. Limitations on the Intel 386/25 
  133.     motherboard do not allow to make use of the accelerator functions
  134.     of the V7-MIRAGE in such systems. 
  135.  
  136.     (3) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer 
  137.  
  138.                      "Video 7 ..." display interfaces
  139.  
  140.     in their configuration programs.
  141.  
  142.     These options should NOT be selected when using the V7-MIRAGE.
  143.  
  144.     Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to 
  145.     guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-MIRAGE is
  146.     being installed.

  150.     ║                  Notes on Applications                      ║

  153.     Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
  154.     available for the V7-MIRAGE. These READMEs contain last-minute 
  155.     information not included in the printed documentation and infor-
  156.     mation related to known limitations.
  157.  
  158.     These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
  159.     the related driver has been selected for installation while
  160.     running the INSTALL program. The READMEs can be identified by
  161.     the file name extension .DOC .
  162.  
  163.     Use the command  SHOW *.DOC  from the \SPEA\GDC directory to
  164.     display the README file on your screen.

  190.           Configure your modem as follows:
  191.           * 300 - 14400 Baud; 8 Data Bits; 1 Stop Bit; No Parity;
  192.           * terminal emulation:      
  193.             if possible: ANSI.SYS (emulation mode ANSI.BBS)
  194.             or         : TTY 
  195.             note:
  196.             if you chose TTY you have to deactivat at the mailbox the ANSI 
  197.             emulation: -> 'main menu' -> 'configuration' -> 'ANSI OFF'
  198.           * file transfer protocols (communication between the 2 MODEMs)
  199.              Zmodem (recommended) 
  200.              Ymodem, Ymodem -G  
  201.              Xmodem, Xmodem /1k, Xmodem /1k -G
  202.           * floatcontrol (communication between your MODEM and the PC):
  203.              hardware handshaking (RTS/CTS),
  204.              do NOT choose: software-floatcontrol (Xon/Xoff)!
