FRIDAY 26TH AUGUST 1994
THE BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
I don't have much time to write, but what I will write is important:
Rubens Barrichello is on provisional pole! In only his second season, and the
Jordan team's fourth! I don't think anything like this has ever happened
before! I am a big fan of Rubens, and this news is brilliant! Apparently it has
been raining a lot at the Spa-Francorchamps track (I went to the Belgian GP
last year, and it was very hot), and nobody could beat Barrichello, not even
Micheal Schumacher (who has not had his future decided yet)... The positions I
know are:
1) Barrichello
2) Schumacher
3) Hill
4) Irvine
5) Alesi
6) Verstappen
Something weird is going on - apparently there are going to be three McLarens
and one Larrousse (Beretta is a waste of space!)... I don't know if this
arrangement will continue in the race, but Hakkinen was 8th, Brundle 13th and
Alliot miles back... Also, Belgian Philippe Adams has replaced Zanardi at
Lotus, but didn't do too well in pre-qualifying...
See 'ya tomorrow. Let's hope that Barrichello stays where he is!
Saturday...
Brilliant news! It rained so much that nobody could improve on their lap times,
so Barrichello is on pole! Wahey! Now we have to hope that he can stay in the
lead for the whole race... Mind you, I don't think Schumacher would let that
happen...

See you tomorrow...
Monday 29th August...
Today it is my 16th birthday...
Yesterday, Barrichello was not the race winner. However, it turns out that,
despite crossing the finish line first, neither was Schumacher! Micheal
Schumacher was disqualified for having the bit of wood underneath his car too
thin, or something like that... This will not be good for his appeal, which is
decided tomorrow...
This means that second placed Damon Hill has won. Hakkinen second, and
Verstappen is once again third...
Friday 9th September...
I have still yet to write the race analysis, and I have not seen the
highlights, due to the fact that Ben Price recorded them and then recorded over
them before I got the chance to see them... This is the first highlights I have
missed for over a year! It also means that my intention of having all the
highlights on video is now impossible... Bugger!
I can't remember much about the race, but I can remember this: Barrichello
managed to keep the lead into the first corner, but was soon overtaken by
Schumacher, then the rest, putting him down to 5th place. It became apparent
that both Jordans were aiming to make just one pit stop each. Barrichello,
after his stop, rejoined the race in 5th position. Had he kept his car on the
track, a podium position would have been likely, since he would have overtaken
the cars in front during their pit stops. However, while in the process of
driving around as an F1 driver does, Barrichello suddenly found Jean-Marc
Gounon in an awkward position in front of him. Rubens then proceeded to fly off
the track and into the gravel, where he stayed...
Micheal Schumacher gained a massive lead over Damon, but several hours after he
won, he was disqualified due to having an illegally thin 'plank' (the bit of
wood underneath the cars that slows them down). Benetton claimed that the plank
had been damaged during a spin that Schumacher had during the race, but this
was rejected at an FIA hearing a few days ago. On the same day, Benetton were
cleared of illegally removing a fuel filter from their tanks (causing the pit
lane fire in the German GP), and McLaren were cleared of using an illegal
automatic gearbox in the San Marino GP. Micheal Schumacher's two race ban
remains, and JJ Lehto is getting back into the Benetton for Sunday's Italian
GP. Apparently, Johnny Herbert, with the new Mugen-Honda engine, has qualified
6th in the first session (his previous best this season was 15th). Also, Eddie
Irvine was disqualified from the first qualifying session for doing too many
laps, and Paul Belmondo is going to make a film about the life of Ayrton
Senna... We all hope his skill as a presenter is better than his skill as a
driver...
