  3.  Some very interesting comments from Loic Duval, the chief editor of the 
  4.  French magazine, "Atari Magazine". This section was compiled from 3-5 
  5.  different posts.  - from CIS...

  7.    I am Loic DUVAL, the chief editor of the french mag: "Atari Magazine". 
  8.    I can give you all the information  you want (or need) on the european 
  9.    market & products...What can I say about the french and European mar-
  10.    ket?  hummmm... Atari is the European leader in the home market, with 
  11.    45% of this market.

  13.    There are:

  15.    400,000 ST (STF/STE/MEGA) installed in France; 600,000 ST (maybe more) 
  16.    in RFA [Germany]; 400,000 ST (maybe 500 000) in UK and also many ST's 
  17.    in Belgium, Netherlands, Danemark, etc.

  19.    The Mega STE is selling very well in France (we are out of stock) and 
  20.    the TT very well in Germany.

  22.    ATARI France is hoping to sell between 100,000 & 150,000 STE in 1991. 
  23.    I think it will be the same thing in UK. It is a strange thing, but it 
  24.    seems that Atari is now more a European company even if all the deve-
  25.    lopements are made in USA.

  27.    The professional market is very important in Germany (Atari is the 
  28.    leader of this market in this country). In France professional part of 
  29.    total Atari sales is between 15 & 20%.

  31.    Oh, do you know that Atari UK is developing a new add-on for STF/STE 
  32.    based on a transputer T800. This add-on known as STT would be avail-
  33.    able in Europe at the end of 1991 and would have some amazing graphic 
  34.    capacities. The price would be around 850 $ (US).

  36.    You have to understand that the European market is very different than 
  37.    yours. The Mega STE is doing so well in our countries that Atari can't 
  38.    supply everybody.  For example Atari France has installed a direct 
  39.    airlift between France and the factories to receive machines as fast 
  40.    as possible.

  42.    Sales of the TT and MEGA STE are pretty good in Europe. The slowdown 
  43.    is on the home market. The 1040 STE is selling well, but the 520 STE 
  44.    meets some little drop due to economical difficulties and the strong 
  45.    attack of the game systems (NES, Geo Neo, Lynx...).
