How It All Began
How It All Began
~~~~ HOW IT ALL BEGAN ~~~~
==========================
This is the whole story on how 'POWER' came about:
It all started in 1988 - The year I got my ST. Before that I had
had an Atari 800 XL and before that I had that beauty of a
machine, The Atari 400 with a massive 16k. Yes I was down to the
serious stuff. No ZX81's for me (ALthough I now have a ZX81
emulator!). The Atari 400 was given to me by my uncle and it
didn't even have a tape deck. It just took cartridges. As far as
I was concerned back then was that a computer was playing Pacman
with. Well then after about 4 years, I got bored of Pacman and we
moved on to technology so advanced that our next computer had an
even bigger 64k AND it had a tape deck!!! Well you can imagine
how over the moon I was but it was now about 1986 and technology
was starting to move much faster. On December 25th, 1988, I woke
up to a brand new, gleaming ST with 512k. It was like nothing I
had ever had. I was about 9 then and untill I was about 12, that
ST did nothing except load the games that came free with the
package. I thought this was all brilliant untill I discovered....
'The World Of P.D." Games for only £1.50; could it be true?! Yes
it could. I ordered so much P.D. that in the end I had to order a
strange device known as 'A disk box'. I then saw an intresting
utility in my P.D. catalouge and seeing as it was only £1.50 I
thought I would give it a try. So I ordered it. It was alright
and after that I started to find out how much the ST was capable
of and I decided that I would try and use it to it's full extent.
The first thing I did was start using the Word Processor, I
filled up my disk with files and had to make another copy of 1st
Word therefore learning how to copy and format a disk. I started
learning very fast and enjoyed every second of it. Within about a
year I was programming games of my own in Stos Basic. Although I
enjoyed writing my games with names such as, "Attack of the over
ripe banana!" I still felt I wanted to be more involved with my
computer. I started buying computer magazines because of this and
with the free disks and imfo to help me get even more involved in
computing I felt quite happy.
Then my baby brother was born!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why oh why, I do not know but since the age of about 3 minutes and
24 seconds he had got himself into the habit of ripping up my
magazines and eating them (ALIVE!). I wouldn't even notice
because I hadn't had time untill a few days after purchase and by
then my magazine was lucky to be in less than 3 million peices. I
would have found out more about computers by treading in a load of
dog sh*t, purely by accident got 3 kilograms of it into a tooth
paste tube and then brushing my teeth with it (what a nice
thought!).
In other words buying magazines just wasn't worth it anymore!
Then I saw a load of Disk magazines reveiwed. Could this mean
that there was actually a magazine on a disk? It seemed so, and
after a while I ordered a few. After a few editions of a few disk
mags I made a few decisions (few!). Those descisions were that I
wanted to write a disk magazine; so I ordered a disk magazine
construction kit sort of thing straight away and I am afraid this
is how it ended up.
So that was how 'POWER' was born. Hopefully 'POWER' will grow up
like my baby brother and will eat all paper based magazines as
they are just not needed anymore!
On a more serious note, I really hope you enjoy reading 'POWER'
and I hope I get enough feedback to be able to bring out future
issues. My address is on the title screen and at the end of this
article.
Here is some imfo on me so you know just who is writing this
rubbish.
I am a thirteen year old boy who is basically pennyless and is
quite bored with life even though I haven't really seen much of it
yet. I want to get to know as many people as possible and that is
one of the reasons why I wanted to start writing disk mags - So
that I could get to know new people from their letters so please
get in touch. I don't have a paper round and I don't get pocket
money so I am never out putting papers through peoples doors and I
am never down at the shop buying sweets with my pocket money so
writing this gives me something to do on a Saturday and Sunday
when I have done all my homework (I had to say the bit about the
homework incase my mum reads this!).
Basically I'm a bored young boy looking for a few friends (no
matter what age) and something that I can really get into which I
am hoping is this disk magazine!
If you want to get in touch with me, whether it's just for a chat
or if you have any questions or queries then send your letters to:
Also if you have any P.D. that you would like to share with me if
you send enough return postage then I will use your P.D. on any
future Disk mags of mine, maybe review them and fully credit you
in the mag. I will also return your disk with as much of my P.D.
that I can cram on to it.
THANKS FOR LISTENING AND PLEASE DO GET IN TOUCH OTHERWISE THIS
DISK MAG WILL DIE VERY FAST!
