Your Rights
Your Rights
~~~~ YOUR RIGHTS AS A CONSUMER ~~~~
===================================
See if you can answer these questions on the rights you have as a
consumer - True or False.
1. You buy a casserole dish in the sale. It is labelled 'seconds'
and is half price. The first time you put it in the oven it
cracks. You cannot ask for your money back because you knew it
wasn't perfect when you bought it!
Answer:FALSE
2. You buy a new CD for your daughter's birthday present. When
she opens it, the disc is by a different group. The shop has run
out of the one you want and says you can have a credit note but
not a refund.
They are right!
Answer:FALSE
3. You buy a new kettle. When you get home, you wish you'd bought
a cordless one instead. You try to change it but the shop
refuses. The shop is within its rights!
Answer:TRUE
4. You can't get a refund on faulty goods if you haven't got a
receipt.
Answer:FALSE
5. You order and pay for a new swimming costume which you tell the
mail order firm you want for your holiday in five weeks time. It
hasn't arrived by then. You can cancel your order and get your
money back?
Answer:TRUE
6. You have an extension built on your home. It turns out that
the wiring is faulty. The builder refuses to put it right saying
the electrician was a sub-contractor and he is not responsible for
the electricians work. True or False.
Answer:FALSE
7. You have a plumber in to replace a washer but - without
telling you - he replaces the whole ballock assembly. You have
to pay for it because he says it needed to be done.
Answer:FALSE
8. You book a table for four at a restraunt but decide you would
rather stay at home. You don't bother to tell the restraunt which
then sues you for the profit on four meals. It is allowed to do
this.
Answer:TRUE
9. You buy a present for your Aunt, who discovers it is faulty.
She is entitled to compensation if she takes it back to the shop
that you bought it at.
Answer:FALSE (Although most shops will change it!)
10. You need a new bed and pay on credit. The shop refuses you a
loan and will not tell you why. It is within his rights.
Answer:TRUE
Well, I hope that has helped you in some way. Maybe you could
