*** PREPARE TO BE BORED 2 ***
CHIT CHAT
BY
GARY
Well, here we are again with another kilobyte or two of witterings from me
just to slow the pace down of another excellent issue of POWER. The reason
I thought I would do another Chit Chat is because I got a very nice letter
from Mrs Peters of Bristol who wrote to tell me that my last one has helped
her family out of a problem. Apparently her husband has not been able to
sleep since 1983 when he had a particulary bad accident with a food mixer
and since then he has been moody and miserable and often throws fits of
temper. He has recently taken to pegging the hamster out on the rotary
clothes line and threatening to spin it if she can't find some way to help
him. Anyway, Mrs. Peters said that her husband was reading the last issue
of POWER when he came across my Chit Chat and he fell fast asleep after the
first paragraph. That was at 5pm on Monday and he never woke up until 7am
the following Thursday.
Thank you for your nice letter Mrs. Peters but unfortunatly I can't satisfy
your request for a 50k Chit Chat so Mr. Peters falls asleep for a fortnight
just so you and the kids can go to Butlins for two weeks.
Ok. back to the wittering and first the moan. Those who bothered with last
months C.C. may remember it took over 2 weeks for Warpzone to send me the
100 disks I ordered, well being a complete idiot, after I recieved them, I
ordered another 100 blank disks by credit card on the 1/4/1994 and as I am
typing this on the 19/4/1994 and still haven't recieved them I am pretty
pissed off. If they don't arrive tomorrow I'm going to cancel the order. How
the hell can a P.D.L. the size of Warpzone expect to keep a customer base with
service like that. "Why don't you chase them up?" I hear you ask. Well, I did
(or my wife did) and they said they had run out. What they don't realise is
that they said the SAME thing last time. 'Nuff said!!!
Great moments in history will always be remembered. People remember where
they were and what they were doing when the war with Germany was announced
or when President Kennedy was shot. When we are old and grey, will we be
telling our grandchildren we can remember when POWER went shareware? It's
possible, but of course that will never happen if we don't support it. Just
think, by not supporting POWER now it's shareware, you could be changing the
course of history. Support POWER for the sake of your grandchildren and for
the generations to follow.
Chris Sharp, the SUPREME STOSSER, MONITOR MASTER, AWESOME ATARIST and
KEYBOARD KING has coded me a displayer which is beyond greatness, above
excellent and surpasses magnificent. There is ability, there is talent and
then there is Chris Sharp. As you can probably tell, I'm pretty pleased with
it. Thanx mate.
A word about contacts. Do those of you out there realise that there is a
whole host of people who mess about with thier Atari who are pleased to
swap PD, have a laugh over the keyboard and genrally gossip via the post?
Do those of you out there who are reading this realise you are one of them?
Why I say this is that anyone who reads POWER is a type of contact as they
are part of the contact scene without actually realising it. The way that
James puts POWER together is exactly the way contacts operate so if you
like POWER, you will like the contact scene. Try it. Write to one of the
names that appear in the mag, do it via James if you like, but do it. You
won't regret it and you would be suprised what you get out of it and what
you can give in return.
I have recently had a reply to my on going request for people to write to
me from a guy called Bruce Thomsom. Bruce is 14 years old and is a bit of a
music maestro. He has produced some music disks for P.D. in the name of
Federal Noise. Watch out for this guy in the future as he has talent and I
have got a feeling that we will be seeing, and hearing, a lot from him.
Word has it that he will be contributing to POWER and it could be this
issue but if you want to hear his stuff send me a blank disk and I will
send you one of his compilation disks and from that you can get his address
and contact him direct.
Finally (this is going on too long and I don't want you all joining Mr.
Peters in a comatose state), a last word about shareware. I would like to
hear in the next issue of POWER from any shareware authors, what their
experiences of the shareware concept are. Have you had a good or bad
experience? Were you supported? Did it encourage you to do more? Do you
think it is a working concept? As I can't program in any way I would be
interested in the views of a programmer on something we all take for
granted.
'Till next time
Gary
