STARK RAVING BONKERS

REVIEWED BY JAMES L. MATHEWS
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Stark Raving Bonkers is a brand new game by Dave Cobbledick of Dunces Cap
Software which has been under work for a while now. Boasting ten games in
one, this is a game well worth checking out.
The game sells through numerous P.D.L.'s for numerous prices. It also sells
through our very own P.D.L., POWER P.D. for the R.R.P. of £8.99 which is the
cheapest that you're going to get this game at as far as I know. (For more
info on POWER P.D., read the P.D.L. adverts section in this issue). The
price (when bought at POWER P.D.) includes postage and packaging.
So, what is it exactly? Well, it reminds me very much of GALACTIC
FRUITBOWL, another popular game by Dave Cobbledick. There are many
different sections to the game. The first is a 40 second quiz. You have to
answer questions with either TRUE or FALSE. For each correct answer, you
gain 5 spins. At the end of the 40 seconds, these spins can be used on the
fruit machine that you enter. With these spins, you then work the fruit
machine in the usual way aiming to fill up the word FEATURE by getting two
or three of the same symbols in a row. Once you have done this, you move
onto yet another section. Here, you have to choose - through skill and
luck - the section that you are going to play next. Once this has been
chosen, you go to that sub-game. Sub games include things such as Hangman,
blackjack and another 6 different games. When this has been chosen, the
sub-game will be entered and you then have a few goes on that in order to
gain extra points and so on.
Well, hopefully you have the general idea of the game, so what's it actually
like? Well, it's not bad at all. As with all Dave Cobbledick games, it has
been well presented with lots of nice graphics and sampled sound galore.
It's all been well put together and is very easy to get to grips with.
There's loads to keep you occupied with lots of variety and fun.
The whole game comes on two disks and the size of the game explains why.
There are loads of nice little touches throughout the game. For example, in
the hangman clone, waiting for a while will result in your little man using
a little toilet humour. There's also lots of speech and sampled sounds
elsewhere as always and everything has a very nice feeling to it. However,
things can get a bit tedious if you're not a fruit machine fan as after
every sub-game, you have to revert back to the fruit machine in hope of
being lucky enough to get to another feature and thus reaching another sub-
game. This can get a bit boring and annoying. That being said though, the
fruit machine section has been done well, as have all the other sections.
The good thing about the game is that it has lots of different things in it
to keep you going. It's addictive and is full of great stuff. I'd
recommend it to most people and would definitely recommend it to anyone who
likes the ol' fruit machines or anyone that likes a good game of Hangman, or
anyone that likes a good game of Blackjack, or anyone that likes a good
trivia quiz or anyone that likes...You get the idea!
